THE HUNTER

 Patience born of time afield
 Knowledge gained by long experience
Stealth brought about from endless practice
Garbed in dark to hide in shadows

             Little escapes his steely eyes
as the hunter tracks his prey
     He   picks.......and   chooses
                                          at his leisure

Quarry ,often unsuspecting
unaware of perhaps being passed over
        in favor of another mark
        whose end is
                                    sudden

         Matters not to hunter
is prey aware of his presence

                                                  or not
                                 Same outcome
                             Same loss
                         Same sudden lurch between living

                                                                                   and dead

The slow inexorable stalk
 the long stretches of silence
                                        and    waiting
                                        and watching
                                         and deciding

                                 Now ?    or    Later ?
this one or that one ?

       Swift cold-blooded decisiveness
                           With inevitable result

I  am the quarry     Death  the hunter
                                                                and eventual victor

                                                                 But not today

Thank you ...

... for an ending I (we all) can live with! This is a stealthy write indeed. It's a little unsettling (in a positive way) that you say, "I am the quarry." Gives me the chills. I like it. I've never seen "leasure." I think you mean leisure. And I'd drop in a hyphen for cold-blooded. Nice display of lines on the page.

Hi Stan This piece held my

Hi Stan This piece held my attention from the git-go. Nice use of alliteration throughout for a smooth read. It (the alliteration) sat sutle and unobtrusive. is "leasure" spelled correctly? I just thought of something! Maybe its a a play off "pleasure". either way works for me. I admire your craftmanship. I bet all your endeavors in life have this quality! sincerely, AL

Wow!

It's pretty much all been said before me. Great poem, very intense! This part is my favourite: "Same sudden lurch between living and dead" The visual layout forces me to look around, a bit like a hunter or prey. Neat! Antoine
