creation

in the imposed oneness of the last bird to fly
unopposed and limitless
we sought the sky in which our voices merged
and there a tenderness called
as sun and light approached creation
the dark veil between us lifted,  its dawn
of eyes looked through us
and our wings were given flight
above the closed dust of lost eons
a dead sea
in the holy shroud of time
in the cracked fist of clay, the mountains opened
and in the speech of pines
the waterfalls descended
pouring into our spirits, what is yet imagined
through the black and hidden night
starless and unreasoning

Dear Barry

This piece is simply dazzling in its beauty and grace. I wish I had written it. Your talent is stunning. My favorite lines are: as sun and light approached creation the dark veil between us lifted its dawn of eyes looked through us and our wings were given flight above the closed dust of lost eons Always, Cat

I’ve read this poem at least 5 times…

I find richness in its texture. I like the lower case, it seems to make the poem unassuming, yet there is still power in the words. I feel the reader may find many different faucets in its abstractness . The unfolding story of creation presented here is really lovely. I love the idea of being given the gift of spirit to overcome anything and gain what our imaginations can dream up. My favorite lines have to be “in the holy shroud of time in the cracked fist of clay, the mountains opened and in the speech of pines the waterfalls descended pouring into our spirits, what is yet imagined through the black and hidden night starless and unreasoning” We are the elements of our surroundings. Lovely, Lovely, Always, Tonya
