Osiris Walks

                   Osiris  Walks

                Pale moon rising, shadows dance,
                across a rippling Nile
carrying its secrets to the sea
                night-things whisper, not by chance,
                long-dead Pharoahs smile
                revelling in ancient mystery

                Shifting sands reveal a tomb
                old when Gods were young
allowing it to shimmer in the night
sending forth a song of doom
                no human lips had sung
since darkness first did battle with the light

                Deep within a shrouded form
                arises from its sleep
like a Phoenix from its funeral pyre
                spreading madness like a storm
                among the human sheep
who willingly embrace its dark desire

And as the desert wind blows cold
                across its sea of sand
an eldritch voice begins again to talk
speaking in a tongue so old
                no mind can understand
for once again the Lord Osiris walks

First off, well done on crow

First off, well done on crow barring the word eldritch into a poem. Best lines, in the second stanza: "old when gods were young" john

Thanks John!

I guess you don't often see that word in play anymore, at least not since the days of Lovecraft or Poe! I am quite fond of archaic terminology upon occasion! Glad you stopped by to read and comment!

Great Poem

You have a great command of the language. The imagery was excellent in this expertly penned poem. I thought it was great from beginning to end. Love it. Faith ~I never say anything I don't mean nor do I say anything to be mean.~

Dear Lonnie

I'm a day late and a dollar short, once again. Egyptian Mythology is so interesting and the Egyptian pantheon is my favorite. I wrote a poem about "Set" another Egyptian God (the troublemaker) but it is a far cry from your exquisite poem. I haven't posted my poem yet and now I don't know if I will because it pales besides your poem. You are a fantastic poet. Always, Cat

Thank you, Cat!

Praise like this from another poet of your caliber is praise indeed! Maybe we could collaborate on some Egyptian themes. Anyways, Thank you again for reading and commenting!

Thanks, Lil Z!

If you look back through others I have written, I believe you can tell by the number of comments on each whether or not one is mediocre! Yes, I've written many I consider to be poor, if not mediocre! Anyways, thanks for the nice comment!

Lonnie, this one threw me at first

But the more I read it, the better it becomes. The odd rhyme scheme and the dissonance that creates actually works and sticks in my head. Nice to see you stretching and experimenting. I like this better each time I read it. Respectfully, Rett: “Anyone who sacrifices liberty for security deserves neither.” Benjamin Franklin
