GOLDEN CHILD

It seems the world is looking here
in this time of rampant strife
   for a leader without fear
to bring lost hope back to life

Nobody cares about his race
   enlightened minds look everywhere
for a man willing to face
   adversity, his type is rare

Perhaps he'll come from humble roots
with feet anchored in what is real
one who looks before he shoots
keeping our ship on even keel

A statesman not a politician
who governs by the people's will
   and realizes his position
   is determined by us still

In every passing generation
when things look hopeless and so bleak
a man is produced within our nation
you know the kind of which I speak

The kind who lifts our trampled spirit
and centers both the left and right
he is here somewhere never fear it
he just hasn't come in sight

Although you may love him most dearly
   I'll keep my criticism mild
let's just hope we all see clearly
   Obama's not the golden child

Brilliant Stan

I'm running for president, but I’m afraid it’s for Britain so it won’t be much help for you in the States, ha, ha. I love this write Stan, not too political, but makes a great point. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Dear Stan

You reminded me of the movie the golden child with Eddie Murphy lol .... elected leaders are just that, people trying to do a job and Obama is no different Love JayCee (Quote~~"It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. I always give national leaders the benefit of doubt whether I voted for them or not.Our current Congress and President have succeeded in only uniting our country in our distaste for all levels of federal govt. When next 2 election cycles are over there will be many career politicians looking for jobs in the real world where they will actually be expected to produce.Sorry for rant!....Stan

Who, therefore could be.. or would be..the golden child:)

Nice poem Scribe and I wonder who was ever the Golden Child in a position some could not even fathom being in. What a job for one man or woman to undertake. I will not go political here only stating that the Golden Position is not all peaches and cream anyway you slice it. I know it will all tell or no sell when the first four years are up. Only then we shall see or not see. Nice job you did here again my friend..peace to you Love Mona

It DOES seem that we have always produced the leaders needed in times of turmoil. It goes back to Washington,Lincoln,Roosevelt,Truman,Kennedy, and even Reagan. My main fear is that media and partisanship have made politics so distasteful that the type people we need decline the call.I'll try not to dip quill back into political ink again......scribbler

Yes you are correct Scribe

You must never stop dipping your quill in political or any other issue you love to write about. Alot of poets all over and people surely share your views. This is a good poem and my comments were only commentary to it. Keep your quill alive for we love your writes. I know I do Love-Mona

Dear Stan

A stirring piece. Your last few lines are my own thoughts, but my favorite lines are: Perhaps he’ll come from humble roots with feet anchored in what is real one who looks before he shoots keeping our ship on even keel A statesman not a politician who governs by the people’s will and realizes his position is determined by us still Always, Cat

Well done, Scribbler

Not only for the structure and pace but content as well. I second your opinion on needing new strong leadership. The job at the top is tough. He is president, not a king, and has a lot of helpers that need to go out the door with him. I care not if a person claims to be democrat or republican or whatever, nor for the color of their skin. I JUST WANT someone who truly seems to care about the American people!!!!! ALL AMERICANS!!! I see nothing wrong with political poetry. It is just a topic touchy to most. We all have our opinions formed in so many different ways. lol, would love it if only the truth in its entirety, no editing, was displayed. But, there is never just the facts. They have to be skewed and twisted to fit an agenda. sad sad. lol, sorry, didn't mean to rant. Loved the poem. Always, Tonya

I love your views!

I'm always told "You're 13, you shouldn't have a say in politics", and they are right about one thing, but it's just the fact that I'm young. Sadly, I believe that the people who tell me this are the same ones who are threatened by the fact that they are not as politically intelligent as a(n) "ignorant 13 year old". But I believe that it is our right as American citizens to learn as much as we can about our Government, and call them on foolish decisions they have made, regardless of age. And not only am I happy that you have done that, but you have placed the words so eloquently in your poem as well!

reason for restriction on voting age is to allow time for enough experience to see how system works.Sadly many 50 yr. olds still have no clue.thanks for comment Z ...scribbler
