Visits from Above

I had to smile one icy day

As I viewed this peaceful scene;

An offering from heaven

Of three lovely doves of gray

Upon a faded headstone

They sat, as if to say,

We came down for a visit,

So you‘ll no longer be alone

It was as if they knew;

Could see into the past

This man, in his existence,

Was known only to a few

No one had taken time to call

Or dropped by for a chat

He endured a lonely life,

Unknown to almost all

With their downy feathers brushed

They nestled close upon the stone,

Cooed a mournful melody

The winter's weather hushed

Now, I see them often

Clustered close upon the grave

Performing songs in concert

For the loneliness to soften

a little differnt rhyme pattern for me. abca, defd, ...etc..  Hope the poem makes sense. It came from a scene i viewed one evening on my drive home. Filled me with such melancholy, I couldn't get it out of my head.

Sure JayCee..

I'm always open to suggestions. I am not sure you realized only the 1st and last lines of each stanza rhyme. It does make the poem seem a bit odd. But it is intentional and i meant it to compliment the feeling of the poem. But, yes, I welcome your suggestions. Always, Tonya
