First Love.

The moon shone down on earth that night
Bathed the world in it's silver light
Lit up the beach where two lovers lay
In their little love nest, just across the bay

Magic wove two beating hearts together
Promising love which would last forever
They made sweet love, then returned to the car
Tomorrow, this young soldier was heading for war

Many tears were shed between the two
Like diamonds glistening in the morning dew
Spirits down cast as they waved ''Goodbye''
Turning in home, she breathed a sigh

Nine long months later, he came home in a casket
As their newly born son, lay asleep in his basket
From now on life would be so much harder
Bringing up baby without his loving Father

Geeze Mari

This got to my heartstrings. Such a sad truth to so many families of soldiers. Very well written and appreciated. I think a different title would do this great poem a lot more justice though. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Thank You so very much Xena

Thank You so very much Xena for reading and for your very kind comment, bless you. I like your suggestion for a different title for the poem and wonder what you would like to kindly suggest. I thought 'First Love' because he was her firs and her last love - her only love but I am, as always, open to any suggestions which will help improve my writing dear friend. Thank You again, Xena. Enjoy a very wonderful and blessed weekend. Blessings..........

Hi Mari

The title indicates first love I know, but gives the reader the impression that it’s romantic, but without the tragedy. If you gave it a title; something that indicates it’s more than a love story, it would catch the eye of more people to read what it’s really about…love found and lost...perhaps something like... “War of Tears” “Battlefield of Love” Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Dear Scribbler, Thank You so

Dear Scribbler, Thank You so vey much for reading an for your most kind comment. I hesitated before posting this poem, in case it brought heartache to a reader, unintentionally but a poet friend of mine on another site, a Vietnam Veteran, asked me to please post it and for him, I did. I intended the poem to be an anti war write, not sure if I have achieved that. I am most grateful for you taking time out to read and to comment so generously. God bless you always!

So Sad But Beautifully Written

Dear Mari-Your poem is so sad but very beautifully written. I love poems that tell a story. This one is so great! Love-Faith ~I never say anything I don't mean nor do I say anything to be mean.~

Another brilliant piece

I agree with scribbler. "First Love" poem without a fairy tale ending is rare and this one is quite beautifully penned. The world is indeed war-torn and a love stuck in it is prone to such hellish reality. Brilliant as always Mari :)
