Lost Lore

In my mind's eye is a young lady

a woman I wish I could be.

She’s happy, pretty and complete

an infant chuckles on her knee.

In my vision she could’ve been I.

Years of struggling to survive the pain

looking in the mirror I see why

I’ll never be that girl again.

Lost years, no longer relevant

still, I wallow in the lunacy I feel.

I surrender to the passing of time

a shadow despondently surreal.

I ask, “Who lives inside me

she who made the wrong choice?"

Spoken words that penetrate my ears

are strange, not my voice.

A fierce wind battles with my sanity

as I rock back and forth in thought.

I don’t know who I am anymore.

That someone that I was … I’m not.

I exist in a vacant universe

with eyes open I fail to see.

I yearn to revisit times of lore,

to be that girl I used to be.

You are right, we do have

You are right, we do have very similar thinkings on our posts Rosina, this is wonderfully put out in a great story, I loved it. It really brought home exactly the lost feeling I was to going for, have felt. Thank you so much for sharing, I saw nothing I would change and my favorite lines are. A fierce wind battles with my sanity as I rock back and forth in thought. I don’t know who I am anymore. That somebody I was…I’m not. I exist in a vacant universe with eyes open I fail to see. Xena, this wonderful inking

Xena, this wonderful inking has universal appeal and most of us who read, if not all of us who read, will be able to identify with what you say in the poem. We all have that young inexperienced girl inside us, as well as the innocent child who has suffered in so many different ways. The young adult, child adoringly played with on her knee - all the different ages we've grown through to the present moment in time. I have no wish to return to times of yore or lore, Xena - been there done that and while I readily acknowledge all the different 'Mari's' inside me - I no longer am any one of them and I choose to live in the present moment - it is the only time frame which works for me. Beautifully expressed, great imagery and flow. As with all your superb penning Xena - a delightful pleasure to read. Thank You for so very kindly sharing.

Thanks Mari

I can tell by your poetry and your lovely comments to everyone that you’re in a good place, and this is wonderful. For me, I tend to wallow in the past because my present isn’t so good. So sometimes my writes are a bit, `I feel sorry for me` kind of thing; but even the downside of feelings can help to mend the soul when you can put them in words to share with lovely people like yourself. Thank you so very much Mari. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Thank you so much for lovely comment. You're so right; I didn't notice that I hadn't put in the apostrophe. I haven’t read it over again since I posted it. to be correct

Hi again, Xena. Or Rosina? I don't know which you prefer. I'm pretty good at fixing up English errors but don't like to bombard writers with it when I'm not sure it's welcomed. Hoping you don't mind, I'm making you a buddy so I can easily read more of your interesting work. Okay, then. A few: Note in my comment above it's mind's eye. So no hyphen. On line 5 "me" should be "I" for grammatical correctness ... and you'll also get a nice coincidental rhyme with your "why" below. And where you have the ellipsis, as I do right here in my previous sentence, note that there should be a space before and a space after. Really touched by this piece again on reread.

Nice one Xena

I liked how you placed this one to page Xena. There is always the child inside us all that sometimes remembers and is always alive inside us. I can relate to this poem for as a little gal I also remember many things and cherish much as life goes on sometimes wishing the child within comes out to play in our adult years. This one worthy of a Nom for me. Good job. I really liked what you have here Peace to you Mona

The baby on the lady’s knee actually means the baby I could’ve had if I’d chosen a different path in life. I never had children so my thinking here is if I had lived a different life with a different man, I could’ve had a child bouncing on my knee with Mr Right by my side? Then I wouldn’t be alone now and I may have had many children to give me a reason to exist. Intense I know Mona, but you know me. Thank you very much for lovely comment. Holy sheesh, Xena, I can

Holy sheesh, Xena, I can honestly say I've been there... A fierce wind battles with my sanity as I rock back and forth in thought. I don’t know who I am anymore. That someone that I was…I’m not. That verse took me straight back to sitting alone in an empty hallway at the college days before I walked into a counselor's office to deal with demons from my childhood. This took me straight back to motel rooms my mother used to bring us to when we had to run again, back to destroyed Christmases and one long destroyed childhood, back to the days and nights I was the second housewife in many more ways that anyone would imagine...No, I will never be that little girl that other girls got to be, with their young loves and young marriages and normal lives behind beautiful houses and loving fathers. I never such thing. I'll never be the girl who knows who she is, who can look in the mirror and be totally content with what she sees. But what I AM: Stronger, braver, courageous, a fighter. I am a survivor, a fighter, a young woman who was never in fact young at all. It's what he made me. It's what the stolen childhood molded me to be, from lost innocence to gained strength to face every day and look a battle straight in the eye and defeat it too. I may not like what I see in the mirror but I can fight and I will. So the next time that fierce wind knocks your sanity down, be the one to swoop down and take it back up again. We aren't victims in the lost lore, dear Xena...we are survivors. Peace & Light "If it wasn't for all of your torture I wouldn't know how to be this way now, never back down you tried to hide your lies disguise yourself through living in denial but in the end YOU WON'T STOP ME." ~ Christina Aguilara

Holy Sheesh back Morgana

Wow you’ve had it tough! For someone so young and been through so much and come through it with such a positive outlook for your future is commendable. I’m afraid when I was your age you kind of accepted your fate and lived with it until it got too much, by that time I was already too far gone in my misery. It turned me cold and aloof. So for many years I decided that I was better off alone. When you choose this kind of life and fall into it for years it’s hard to change. You get so used to being on your own that it becomes a way of life. I’ve found with Neopoet that I can have good friends from all over the world that care without me having to leave my sanctuary. And I’m grateful for the friends that I have. I write a lot of poems about myself and my life because it’s a bit like self-therapy. Thank you so much for your much appreciated comment and always stay as strong as you are. Xena xxx Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

First off, congrats on

First off, congrats on spotlight, it is a poem well worthy of being here. And living alone is a life I myself have chosen. I'm only 21, yes, but watching most of my girlfriends get married and have kids simply reminds that it's the life I don't want. I guess I've been a little housewife and taken care of people for so long I'm just looking for a way out of it still. Kinda turned me into the vagabond I am, you know. Neopoet has been the same to me. I've adopted a second family here and without them I don't know what I would do. We all may live at such distances away but the depth in which we understand each other is far greater than that which most human beings don't. Writing has always been a therapy for me. Even my novel has been therapy for me. I hate to think of how much darker and worse my life would be if I never wrote. It's almost unfathomable. We all have our horror stories, and it's sort of the dark beauty of Neopoet that we all share it. Thank you so much Morgana

I know what you mean. You may be only 21, but you’ve had the experiences of someone much older and this is why you are very wise and able to make this choice of living alone so young. Being only 21 though, means that at least you have a long life ahead of you if you change your mind and find that someone special; as you have youth on your side and that would be wonderful. I sincerely hope you do. You deserve to. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Well that some BETTER be

Well that some BETTER be special. I thought I had him twice...but twice wrong. Third time the charm maybe, next time? Perhaps. But I don't hold my hopes up. My favourite Lady Gaga quote- "Some women choose to follow men. Some women choose to follow their careers. When stuck with the choice, just remember that your career is the one thing that won't wake up in the morning and say it doesn't love you anymore." I could still try to find that someone and marry and all that...honestly I would prefer my career in journalism after college and my writing. My friends constantly try to set me up with guys they know and I always decline, simply because it's not what I want. Some hearts are a hard case to crack to get to open up and love... Xena, lots of very good

Xena, lots of very good imagery, pure poetic lines that has lost much impact in a poem that really doesn't lend itself to rhyme unless rhyme is your chosen venue. I wonder where you would have taken this had you gone with free verse? Do you? It was Thomas Wolfe in Look Homeward Angel who said you can never go home again. However, we are only ever coming and going from the same *I*. ~love and light, Anna "There is a kind of mysticism to writing." ~ Irvine Welsh

xena465

15 years 11 months ago

Thanks Anna

I've written a poem similar to this in freeform so I didn't want them to look too similar. So the rhyming 4-line form is deliberate. Although a lot of the content is different but the sentiment is alike. If I change it I would need to completely re-write the whole poem. If you have any suggestions to help the rhyme and rhythm of what I’ve created I’d appreciate that. I think most people have quite liked it in rhyming form though. I should have read this before and be awed and mesmerized by the simplicity and beautiful sentiments! Simply brilliant!

Hi Xena Rosina,

I won't bore you with praises and accolades, there are enough piled up here already, and there is no need to add to them, even as well-earned as they are. But do you remember what I said to you some time ago, about your voice and its uniqueness? Told you so, heehee. Nominated. This is the kind of poetry that I enjoy seeing in the spotlight. Evocative, meaningful, emotional and skillfully written. Well done, and congrats. Respectfully Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race

Yes I do Jim and you were right

And you told me so and I listened and you got me further from where I was. I also said that I needed help with all my writes, which you have given me many times, but it’s only recently that more people feel comfortable about helping me. And it’s paid off. I just hope that other poets like me, see that a little bit of help goes a long way. As you know advice is not always welcomed and that’s what makes us hesitate to offer it. I’ve been insulted and hurt many times when I try to help with the simple things like spelling, but I swallow my pride and help those who really want it. So thank you my lovely Jim and I hope that more people accept genuine help like I’ve been receiving recently. Ah, Xena Rosina,

I quote your observation, "other poets like me" and it makes me smile wide. Yes, Rosina, poets like you. Those who do not welcome advice Do not belong upon this site, Just my humble opinion, But I'm not angry, I'm still smiling at your words. Hi Jim

I used to try hard to fit in with every kind of poet and I realise now that if someone ignores me then I just move on to the people who do want a connection, so I'm fine now and it seems to work, but it's a shame that I can't connect with poets that do write different strong subjects, as it would help my growth too. I'm so chuffed at your lovely comment. I hope you don't mind me abbreviating your name as it's kinda long, ha, ha. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell
