SUMMER SONG
Another sunny summer day
has now seen fit to come our way
and brought along a deep blue sky
that's beautiful to any eye
All the trees are fully dressed
by heat of day not quite yet stressed
their canopies give welcome shade
a cool respite to sunny glade
A quiet walk through leafy green
can lead to some sights seldom seen
like turkey poults and velvet deer
and all of spring's young creatures here
'Midst humid air that has grown hazy
forest's denizens move slow and lazy
the penalty for moving fast
oft' being referred to as "past"
Yet in the shade near cool clear spring
where peepers and the bullfrogs sing
you still can catch a breath of air
while resting there without a care
This time of year is full of sound
as birds and bugs attempt to drown
out rival suitors' mating calls
hoping that their tunes a mate enthralls
Water loving plants are getting wilted
for by rain they have been jilted
perhaps a wondering thundershower
will help them to regain their power
This season that's so full of life
along with its inherent strife
while stuffy and too full of heat
will soon be recalled as being neat
For as August days run out of sand
slight hints of fall soon come to hand
has now seen fit to come our way
and brought along a deep blue sky
that's beautiful to any eye
All the trees are fully dressed
by heat of day not quite yet stressed
their canopies give welcome shade
a cool respite to sunny glade
A quiet walk through leafy green
can lead to some sights seldom seen
like turkey poults and velvet deer
and all of spring's young creatures here
'Midst humid air that has grown hazy
