Filament

Life is but a filament
Of love and hatred's strife
Entwined within each other
Such bright existence requires:

Fire and heat to warm me
When nights are dull with shame,
Frigid cold to chill me
When flames burn out my shell;

Arms sent out to hold me
Should fear resides my spine,
Hands that need to pull me
If I cross that dotted line;

Friends who came to guide me
Where no one lights my way,
Foes that will remind me
I needed someone's aid.

I lived and died a hungry man
Yet you're here to share my pain
Though life devours my happiness
As hopelessness remain.

You are the fire that warms me,
The wind that chills my core;
The hands that hold and shove me,
The friend-foe I adore.

Superb Dennis

I love it; this is a very clever write.....Just on thing in this line… Should fear {resides} my spine, ………..perhaps [reside] Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Thanks Xena

Glad you like it. Thanks for your suggestion but the subject "fear" here is singular. The verb should have an s, hence "Should fear resides my spine." If the word is "fears" then it should be corrected as "reside". Thus "Should fears reside my spine." Thanks for your kindness :)

Sorry Dennis

I'm hopeless with verbs and such like. I even made a mistake in my own comment??? Ha, ha. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

A fine indepth write in this

A fine indepth write in this excellently penned poem Dennis. I found this a very tender and warm write, eloquently expressed. Regardless of how life has been, good/bad, having someone so special there to share the bad times with, as well as the good, has proved to be a blessing from Heaven. That is how love should be and sadly, not all of us are so blessed. I love the pictures you paint with soft strokes of your poetic pen, your words touched my heart as I read. Another resplendent poetic gem to add to your vast and every growing collection, Dennis. Thank you so very much for sharing.

Thanks JayCee

Is the rhythm different meaning strange, or different meaning not similar to others? :)
