Dark night

I've always preferred the night
But recently it's been too dark
An uncomfortable darkness
that makes you feel too paranoid to sleep.
Now I spend my nights alone
Waiting for the company of sunrise.
And when it comes I'm always disappointed
I've always preferred the night.

Hello Seth...

I like this very much! I enjoy the rhythm in your words... The way you smoothly return to the fact, that you always prefered the night. As a lover of the night, and confirmed nocturnal soul, I can appreciate what you're saying here. Beautiful. Gentle regards, Raven-Shakti A robin redbreast in a cage Puts all heaven in a rage. -William Blake

Goodness... Did you read my mind? Or is it that you are a brother in arms? Fellow pilgrim on the road of solitary insomnia? Beautifully done.

Xena, now that you have taken that first step, you are trapped in the land of Neopoetland! You will spend years and years, writing of your adventures here, and trying to figure out the meaning of life. LOL. Welcome! ~ Geezer

Thanks

I hope to share more of my work, and I fear that the meaning of life is something that I can never hope to understand. Thank you for the greeting.

Sorry about...

your change of name, LOL. I was trying to work while I was half asleep. Please forgive the mistake. I am so glad to welcome you to the site. I wanted to say so, but I should have done it while I could function. ~ Geezer

Excellent!

Kinda short, but why go on when all is said and you've concluded perfectly? Only two little changes I can suggest: "Now I spend my nights alone Waiting for the company of sunrise." (I shifted the period to the next line, as it's one sentence.) And since only one line starts with a minuscule, you could put a cap on it. Otherwise great, welcome aboard! Antoine

I’ve always preferred the night But recently it’s been too dark An uncomfortable darkness that makes you feel too paranoid to sleep. Now I spend my nights alone. Waiting for the company of sunrise And when it comes I’m always disappointed I’ve always preferred the night. Night is a dark preference paranoid and sleeping my nights alone in the company of sunrise are darker then light Work on being succinct, it empowers your imagery.Step outside yourself and strive for universality. Remember that poetry is above all an art form where each word is a brush stroke that either adds or detracts from the composition. Now teach me something. We are all students.

thanks but...

while I appreciate your honesty, I'm not sure I understand your advice/suggestions. They feel like empty recited words rather then actual advice. "Work on being succinct, it empowers your imagery." I agree entirely.

Hello

Nice to meet you. I too am a lover of the night. I think, like you, my soul is filled with the night. Raven has said to you what I would have. Exquisitely dark poem. Always, Cat

welcome to neoi like this a

welcome to neo i like this a lot the conversational tone disguises the undertone "But recently it’s been too dark An uncomfortable darkness that makes you feel too paranoid to sleep" for me, these 3 lines give an added glimpse into the characters psyche and make the write more than being just about his preference for night i like that you don't beat the reader over the head with anything obvious... there's a hint of something dark [pun intended!] a small suggestion~ the last line could pehaps be a floating line...just to give added emphasis merely a thought nothing wrong at all as it stands now cheers p
