REFLECTION

Who's that person that I see
in mirror looking back at me
with jowly cheeks and shiny pate?
he looks so tired and over weight

I know this dude can't be named Stan
    for he's a much,much younger man
a master of football and track
can't you bring that young guy back?

Reflection should have thick brown hair
   and muscles bulging everywhere
for at the age of twenty three
he was all that he could be

His gait was longer, sure and free
   unfettered by an injured knee
this old guy's stride is kinda funny
   at least his dispositions sunny

The kid I was that I still see
could work hard all day long
   but this older reflected me
    tires when just hearing song

When I was young I dressed in style
and laughed at stretch waist jeans
now only comfort makes me smile
   attained by any means

This reflected older guy
   has overgrown the younger man
although he jokes and might be spry
a glimpse is all you'll see of Stan

With each day lived or verse wrote down
   I turn another page
and hope the young girl I still love
   still sees beyond my age

Aw, this is really good.

Aw, this is really good. Aging is interesting. How we see ourselves, how others perceive us. I think you expressed this well. The eyes if they still sparkle with life, a smile can bring back youth. Nice poem. raskin

reflective reflection

I'm happy I stopped in to read this. It made me smile with a feeling of comfort for the future. I think I shall remember this worthwhile read in years to come. You have some interesting layers of complexity interwoven with your delightful sense of humor, don't you, Stan! In other words, there is much more to you than meets the eye!

The man in the mirror

Why it is you Scribe no need to hide. I love this one you did today. Good job here just one thing that threw me and it was this line: His gate was long and sure and free His gate was long, sure and free (omitting one of the and's) what do you think Stan the Man? nice work here Love Mona xoxoxo

I think I just realized I misspelled "gait".Also think I'll rework the line you mentioned but in deleting an "and"I will have to add a 1 syllable word that doesn't change meaning.fondly....scribbler

Good work

I loved this. Soon we will all stand there and see who we were, and who we have become. One suggestion: The kid I was that I still see could work hard all day long but this older reflected me becomes tired when just hearing a song The last line breaks the rhythm. I suggest you try: gets tired just hearing a song Great work. Thanks for honestly sharing your life with me.

You're a fine looking chap Stan

And I know that your lady still sees the younger Stan, because he's still in there. Growing old just gives you more wisdom, and that's what important...Great poem young man. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Lovely comment on ageing, I was thinking would the last line of verse 2 sound better if you said , 'let's have that guy back or please ,' or ' can't we get that youngster back' ? love lou xx

Another one!

Brilliantly done! I ask myself the first two lines of this poem a lot, but it's about who I am inside, as vanity is not a God-loving trait. But I loved this one!

I like this poem scribbler,

I like this poem scribbler, good to open doors to conversation and thought. I'm an older gal and am always surprised when I look in the mirror. But somehow I smile and laugh at the image because I see my mothers eyes, my grandmas smile. I don't feel as old as the image but then I start to think there is a certain amount of freedom. Saw your poem come up again, thought I would share where it led me. raskin
