Hooded Stranger

Hooded Stranger
by CM Mattison

A man of many shadows
hooded stranger, he
silently observes
the likes of you, the likes of me

The heart of a Lion
beats strongly in his chest
the eyes of an eagle
watch we who take the test

A brilliant troubadour
this stranger of the hood
he sings of worldly troubles
as only a hooded one could

He writes in desperation
seeking to be understood
so take a single moment
to think of him if you would

I read his words repeatedly
for it often comforts me
To know this shadow man
cutting through detritus and debris

I am his forever friend
and if you would only open the door
to see the dark magic he weaves
you too, would revere him all the more.

I like this Cat

The rhythm and rhyme work perfectly. I had no problem reading it aloud. Although, I am not fond of the forced rhyme in line two, it worked and I enjoyed the whole poem. Respectfully, Rett: “Anyone who sacrifices liberty for security deserves neither.” Benjamin Franklin

Thank you for reading and telling me what did and didn't work for you. Thanks to Anna, I think the rough spot was taken care of. Always, Cat

This is great!

Absolutely not shit! But I agree with always wanting to make your poem better. I think the 3rd stanza's rythm is a bit off. Maybe: "A brilliant troubador this stranger of the hood he sings of [worldly] troubles as only a hooded one could" or "the world's" I also changed "trobador" to "troubador", "troubadour" is also acceptable. The former is American spelling, the second is British. In the last stanza, "I am his forever friend" could be changed to "Forever I am his friend" or "I am forever his friend", I find it seems a bit strange the way it is. A beautiful poem of praise and friendship, never too many of those. Antoine

Dear Antoine

I changed the spelling. (thank you for catching that!) The "Forever Friend" is an American thing, I guess. Let me think on that one for awhile. I appreciate your suggestions. Always, Cat

It's not easy to write a tribute poem, especially in a form that one doesn't often use. *Troubadour* Hooded Stranger A man of many shadows hooded stranger, he silently observing the likes of you, the likes of me The heart of a Lion beats strongly in his chest the eyes of an eagle watch we who take the test A brilliant troubadour this stranger of the hood he sings of worldly troubles as only a hooded one could He writes in desperation seeking to be understood so take a single moment to think of him if you would I read his words repeatedly for it often comforts me To know this shadow man cutting through detritus and debris I am his forever friend and if you would only open the door to see the dark magic he weaves you too, would revere him all the more. As my name says, I used my candle burning magic) to send him healing energy. But I wanted to do something more, to show him how I feel about him. Love to you, Cat

Dear Cat

Dan will absolutely love it. It's a very kind loving poem to a friend who likes to be mysterious and he also has all the talents that you mention. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Dear Cat

when someone writes a tribute about a friend its a wonderful gesture...when its in the form of poetic verses it takes the form of flowers from which the fragrance of sincere appreciation emanates...i could inhale it in your poetry...thank you for that experience... warmly...raj (sublime_ocean)..

Cat

Cat, you've blown me away with this piece. You've captured the Hooded Stranger inside me. Lots of favourite lines, here's a few: A man of many shadows The heart of a Lion beats strongly in his chest the eyes of an eagle watch we who take the test He writes in desperation seeking to be understood To know this shadow man cutting through detritus and debris The whole piece has a strong rhythm and the rhyming is sublime. I did laugh at the thought of me being a troubadour...but actually...you got that spot on. I will have to become the Hooded Troubadour from now on. What an awesome tribute - I feel very loved. I will cherish this poem for ever. You've given me an extra kick in my step today - I can't thank you enough for finding time to write a poem for me. The final stanza concludes the piece really well. Not sure if this needs a tweak: A man of many shadows hooded stranger, he silently observing the likes of you, the likes of me Should the 'he' be removed on line 2? or if it should be there, then should line 3 read 'silently observes' I have no other words to tell you how special this poem has made me feel. Friends forever - damn right! love, HT (Hooded Troubadour) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "With all that I am and all that I could be, I walk this earth and yet nobody sees me".
