With Peaceful Easy Strokes

Slowly, but
with painstaking ease
I paint you out of my life

I mix the Grey
of ash and soot
into shade, ground
from between the leaves
of midnight and dawn

as the texture of you
begins the pale
to nothing

as each lift of the brush,
and every dab erased you
from the canvas of my life,
I realize,
I am overpainting each
and every particle
of you

I meditate on the good
but with regret I forget,
for in the remembering
burns a nothingness

I remix the colour
with a rainbows spray,
and I fill the void
where you once stood

too long
I stood in the background
of your Shadow painting

I am a now
mistress of my own easel
and my brush is reaching
out of the shadow
of you

Sad but beautiful

This is such a sad piece. Shadow painting seems a little hard on your part specially on someone so dear. Excellent!

Dearest Jayne

I love the title and your language usage is sublime. One line follows the other exquisitely without falter A sad poem on the surface, but sometimes it is best for all, if the slate, or the canvas is swept clean. It is like a rebirth. Love, Cat

Dear JayCee

such is the magic of your words ..figures of speech and sequencing that could acutally visualize the painter paint the picture live...stroke by each meaningful stroke... it is impossible to choose the favourite lines because each has a uniqueness of its own...e.g.....although "painstaking" and "ease" dont normally go together...you have expressed an emotion by placing them together...a master stroke .... having said that...i smiled and couldn't hold back the thought "how mean a female painter can be" ...lol... with much love...raj (sublime_ocean)...

Dear Raj

I admit there was a touch of callousness in this write :) some is real some is imaginated but all its a poem :) thanks for the wonderful comment I appreciate the read love and hugs JayCee x x x (Quote~~"It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. Dear JaCee

i do appreciate that the callousness in this write is part of the poetry and not to undermine anyone..it goes well with the flow and the mood.. let me clarify that my concluding remark "how mean a lady painter can get" was purely made in good humor... i appreciate Ms.JayCee Painter very much... love n hugs... raj (sublime_ocean)

“Do what you must but

"Do what you must but never throw anyone out of your heart" Ram Dass. I guess that would include painting. Love the layers of paint on this canvas, dear. ~ would you consider: losing *but*, I grind from the leaves rather than "ground from between the leaves....etc.", as each lift of brush (omit *the*). The last paragraph... I am now a (rather than I am a now, oops) & "my brush is reaching out from the shadow of you" as the last line? "There is a kind of mysticism to writing." ~ Irvine Welsh

Not read the other comments yet, am late to this happening

Ann of Norway I love your idea of painting someone out wonderful, and the fervour with which one could do this could combine with the feelings and give it the atmosphere of a 'happening' quite a stunning one, if, for instance, one were to stage it, I can just imagine it taking place, in fact a whole play could be written using it as the instigator of it. Oh yo make me excited Jayne!!! Otherwise it is sad the reality of it, and with your hand shaking you dab and dab at the visage of the once loved person and it is, yes sad. "Little trees don't grow under big oaks" I think it was Rodin who said that when someone asked him to be an apprentice for a great painter, before he had developed much, this was his answer. It seemed to fit your poem too dear Jayne! Much love from Ann. Love this:- "shade, ground
from between the leaves
 of midnight and dawn"
