Hobbit Hike

                        Hobbit  Hike

Tendrils of thistledown drift with the breeze
                snow on a mid-summers day
insects are buzzing beneath ancient trees
as if they had something to say

A stream murmurs softly as it flows along
wending its way to the sea
in tune with the birds that are singing a song
about how it feels flying free

The road that I travel is longer and older
                than any I've wandered before
and lends my feet strength to be daring and bolder
in straying so far from my door

Morning fades slowly to late afternoon
shadows play tag with the sun
evening will come with its gold-colored moon
                proclaiming that daytime is done

Then will I lie by the side of the road
thoughts to myself I will keep
listening calmly to cricket and toad
                singing me softly to sleep

“In a hole in the ground

"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort." From comfort (mother's womb/universal benevolence) emerges our hero's journey, our walkabout in dreamtime. I suppose having supporters

I suppose having supporters will engender its opposite: detractors. Hmmmm. But when we know each other's hearts.... well it IS good, isn't it, Lonnie? And things take on a different meaning, it would seem. ~ The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. Story type poems have

to be one of my favorite kinds to read! Though a short travel here. I love the descriptive lines. ‘…thistledown drift with the breeze…snow on a mid-summers day.. Insects buzzing…as if they had something to say’ ‘Morning fades slowly to late afternoon Shadows play tag with the sun’ ‘listening calmly to cricket and toad Singing me softly to sleep’ My favorites..wait, that’s almost the whole poem! Lovely, Lonnie, and again, your rhyme and rhythm Are impeccable and so smoothly done! Always, Tonya

i love this lonnie

it reads so gently and smoothly just two lines tripped me up 'A stream murmurs softly as it flows along wending its way to the sea' i wonder what you think of the flow rather as 'A stream murmurs softly flowing along as it wends its way to the sea' ?? love judy xxxx http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/TwentyMyPrettyPonies.html

simply beautiful Lonnie

Hobbit Hike is classic lyrical and beautifully written. Lilting and lighthearted but deliberately crystal clear, I see the thistledown, I hear the insects and crickets and toads, and I now I sleep! Thank you Lonnie, you deserve spotlight. Love, Frangi

Hobbit Like

Lonnie Oh what a wonderful delight This took me back to my gentle stream - My poem - Down By the riverside. I lost Mama at Easter and still dealing with my late husbands death too. But after Mama Passed she lay in her coffin of the palest blue waiting to be moved to the top of the mountain over looking her home down in the valley below On the porch we would sit endlessly days and night full of stars Where we would walk in the evening fields to talk late into the night the stars sparkle in a blue velvet sky above the ink black mountains which I still walk day and night in North Carolina. Paradise here on earth I walked through the woods down to the riverside and sat on a lone fallen tree where the river sang softley - quietly to me The gentle breeze sang whispering gently in the tree tops above it was just mama and me she kissed my cheek - gently The river just flowed by timelessly How long I sat alone I know not but my special time was reminded by your wonderful poem above where I would wonder and rest for eternity. Me little hobbit Always my dear friend Electric Blue
