A BEGGAR'S BANQUET

"A woman shouldn't have to beg"
you said.
"or take scraps from a loveless bed"

Fine words from the mouth
of one
so well fed.

"A man shouldn't have to lie"
I sighed.
"Or hide beneath a thin veneer of pride"

Esurient echoes emitted
from a starved
inside.
