Diseased Eyes

Have you ever met someone
who's smile was fixed,
does it puzzle you
when transparency appears

...with obtrusive lucidity
you're not waiting to see,
like the smiling lion's hungry gaze
with her focus way too clear.

Deceptively active,
they have their clothes on straight,
with the deep need for the advantage
imprinted on their faces.

Clarity,
are you afflicted,
reading those hidden corners,
revealing mind shadowed mirrors,
hearing what is never quite said,
seeing where cutting glances go...

sometimes, I'm so alone.

Hi Raskin...

thanks for reading and commenting, it is a common scene indeed, it's all around us everywhere we go. Richard

Dear Richard...

Your poem resonates so deep inside of me... Sometimes, along with that smile you speak of, there's an emptiness in the eyes... like the soul is absent... so to speak... That's why I embrace my solitude, and my animal-relations; I can understand them; we understand each other. I love your insight Richard... Thank you for sharing. hey fellow sandlapper

It does seem, occasionally, as if the only reason people attempt to relate is to gain some type of advantage doesn't it? Very perceptive write......scribbler

It does...

but then there are the genuine ones, those that have no agenda but to walk their path without disdain... and that is a comforting sight. Thanks Stan

Great Poem

Very true about the prception. I completely agree. I can't find anything to criticize as this is so well written. Great poem! ~I never say anything I don't mean nor do I say anything to be mean.~

Hi Faith...

glad you stopped in, I don't know about it being all that well written, I was happy with it but it doesn't necessarily mean an audience will connect, but thank you for letting me know you did. Richard

I wish I had the ability that you have..seems like I am more than likely obvlivious to the things I wish I could hear or see.
