God's Painting

I watched awe-struck today as God painted the sky.

On bright bice-blue canvas He splashed silver-grey hue.

By joining with his breath the works of his brush strokes

He formed pictures of dragon, dog and kangaroo.

Then he blew them apart to float through the ether

and dissipate slowly in the depths of the void.

I contemplate time and the past that’s retreated

faded and lost, like the clouds seemingly destroyed.

My vision is drawn to a small receptacle

that holds the ashes of the dusty suit you wore

while here in this cold world of manifest secrets

and my heart knows a fear I will see you no more.

Then I remember sights of the heavens at night

when cloaking sun’s brightness can no longer conceal

another world comprising millions of candles

lighting directions, other places to reveal.

And I realise that all is not as it seems.

Things may be invisible but nothing is gone.

And like the day’s artwork of God’s lustrous painting

we simply change form, blend with creation, move on.

About This Poem

About the Author

Favorite Poets: Favourite poets? So many, so varied. I like particular songs, not necessarily the singer... and the same goes for poetry. I can honestly say though, that Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman was what inspired my love of poetry - my mother began reading it to me when I was still a baby, and it became my favourite bedtime story

Judyanne,

This is such a lovely work. I love the ideology and the specific rhythm i get when i read it. I do think there are a few rough spots though. Read your words out loud to see how they sound in different order.. the same sounds with consonants and/or vowels can complement the piece. Bice-blue.. bice sounds harsh.. maybe find a softer tone? canvas and rabbits, though close, not a perfect rhyme like you have in your other verses. Consistency is a good thing! I'm sending you a pm with ideas...hope it is helpful. Please let me know. I do like to hear back, because reviews take me a long time to do. And if you would rather not get in depth ones, i don't want to be doing it for no reason. Always Sincere, Tonya

:)

Was my pleasure. I love the poem and still think, even though it is difficult, a few of the lines can be made smoother. lol. I am tenacious! Especially for a great work.... I did find a rhyme for verse one. Would be moving words, just a smidge in line 2. On bice-blue canvas, he used a silver-grey hue/ He formed pictures of bear, snake, hare and kangaroo .........and you're the Austrailian! lol Will be glad to help more if you like. Always, Tonya

I love the title

Superb write Judy. So full of brilliant images and give us a lot of thought on our universe and that it means more than just a few twinkles in the sky. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

He is in the colours of the sunset judyanne I'm sure.

Ann of Norway "God" couldn't work without your son being present, could he, I am sure it is a message to you from those heavens saying here I am mother, in the colours of the sunset are my thoughts of you now, as they always were when I lived, enjoy them and feel close to me as you do. annanya.
