Poem Noir (Eddie Dunn's)

They were playing that slow song

I remember from years ago

She was dancing by herself

She couldn’t have been more wrong

I’ve seen her in my bad dreams

with her wounds that haven’t healed

and an affection for the wrong move

I’m older now, so maybe I wasn’t listening

to a heart that was tired of the hard rain

The way she looked at me

let me know we could find a way

I said you’re lookin’ second to none

She said where have you been

as we danced in a bar named Eddie Dunn’s

Sometimes the simplest mercies

precipitate a foray into the embers

that can heal a broken heart

We held each other as one

and I stayed there with her

on the dance floor at Eddie Dunn’s

Dancing at Eddie Dunn's...

This is so lovely... it flows so gracefully... dancing straight into my heart; I can feel the love here. The melancholy is sublime... Your first stanza pulled me in; so bitter-sweet... Simply exquisite, Michael... Gentle regards, Raven-Shakti
