A REQUIEM FOR AN AIRLINER
A REQUIEM FOR AN AIRLINER Alpha Delta Kilo zero five threeRequesting for start-upStart-up approvedReady for takeoffIn position, clearedTakeoff runway two-twoDeparture right on courseRoger… The control tower printout publishedBrought back sad memories of the infernoPride of nom de plume, reduced to ashesAnd mocked our attempt to excelQuerying the way we do things hereAs I look back in time at the disastersI see the elusive hand of fate in a decadeOf recycled woes in the theatre of life The tears are dried from long cryingBut it couldn’t turn back the hand of timeAs I wept for all the departed spiritsBecause I couldn’t bring them back to liveThe cover-ups undermined the lossesAn Airline, a scapegoat, thus sacrificedLike Christ on the cross crucifiedHad to be liquidated to appease the gods Alpha Delta Kilo zero five threeTouch-down, not requestedThe tower drew blank on gusty windNo distress call, no MaydayIt banked north and took a diveThen into nothingnessHope queried the lives and jobs lostRoger and over.
