Father

In my eyes,

I’ve never known a man

As smart as you

I could swear it was you

Who hung the moon

Never was there anything

You could not do

When I was little and

We would be walking

In the dark

I remember holding

Onto your thumb;

Your hand was so much

Larger than my own,

You would look down

At me and just smile;

I felt safe

I love to look at old

Pictures of you and mom

You were so very handsome;

You deserved the prettiest

Lady for your wife

And I felt like the luckiest

Little girl alive

When I knew I’d done

Something wrong,

Seeing your disappointment

Was the worst form of punishment

I would try everything

Possible to earn a look

Of understanding and a smile

It is hard to watch

Your strong form grow frail

Still, I ask you for your

Advice and wisdom

It has never failed

I love you, Dad

I agree also

I love this. I feel the same way about my dad. I told someone the other day that getting older doesn't bother me, but the idea of my parents growing older, that's something else. Lovely write. Thank you for sharing.
