The Gift
So many songs have been said regarding roses
I fear yet another may appear too cliché.
But the flower I write of was gifted to me
from a loved one who is a long long way away.
Surging, bulging auspiciously
downy soft and rosy-gold radiant
held high on a long emerald leaf-laden stem
stretching toward me in welcome
numerous petals of blood dark blue-red
growing, reaching, in front of my door
barring me.
I had forgotten it was Fathers’ Day.
