Elegy for a Chance Encounter

Who will speak the fond farewell

For him from chance encounter?

While others in attendant rows

He to them so better known, some

Speak the first of last and lasting

Memories built from closer, longer

While a quiet unsaid murmur mine

Calls all the anonymous others

For whom this man, this George

By his relished erudited flourish

Were briefly zested by exampled life.

They answer now unheard, unseen

For all our uneulogised encounters

Ephemeral effects of touching briefly

The being of to be unknown others.

This is the type of poem

This is the type of poem that needs a story to feed the hunger of wanting to know. ~ Your poetry never disappoints; I can only say I wish you graced Neopoet's shores more often. The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
