Janis Joplin

Powerhouse of vulnerability
pulsating with a sublime rawness
captured within a deep blue voice

I wish i'd been there
to bask in the ballsy queen of rock

Bawdy broad with  rings and tattoos
beads and hair flying
she gave it all

Victim , legend, an icon
burnt out , strung out
overdosed at twenty seven

Rock on !!!

A hard act to follow

Very nice tribute to Janice, Lou. I was a bit tripped up reading the last stanza though. Janis was 27 when she died but the fatal gang part, well maybe you can clue me in ok? Victim , legend, an icon founding member of a fatal gang all gone by twenty seven you see it is like you are saying the fatal gang was gone by 27, it's a bit confusing to me.. be back.. Thank you . I see what your saying, I was trying to say there is a group of rock stars who died at 27 eg Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix , Kurt Cobain and of course Janis. Lou xx

"Drugs"

lovely tribute to a very talented musician, shame she died so young she said "on stage i make love to 25,000 people then i go home alone" maybe she had fame but she felt alone and robbed to Heroin! sad but poetic! great write lou much love shirley harrison

I remember my mom saying

I remember my mom saying "she was so beautiful, so passionate". My mom saw her beauty through and through. Her soul's music, her passion, her pain, her love. I ache now with the loss of so many, forever immortal, forever young. Though they were older, the loss of Lennon, Harry Chapin.... My best friend, Roberta Jean (yes, after MM), my dancing partner, and for whose daughter I named mine, died at 27. Lou, I thank you for this poem reminding me of so very much. Bless you. ~ The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
