poetry is like this

honed on a whetstone
like arrows to the heart
poetry is like this

but we live in an anteroom
and Jesus is waiting for us to
walk across the water, he has
towels in one hand and
a gleam in his eye

he's waiting for you to write a perfect poem
to shoot you down
from heaven
but you have not wings,
words are all you have
to give your heart away.*

That second stanza

just shot an arrow of words through my skull and I liked it. I can't think of anything else to say. Kelsey

Yep, we all have one.... an opinion. Isn't it rather like music? What one person likes, certainly may not appeal to everyone.

Arrows to the heart--

how could I disagree? :) It is, I think, "an" anteroom. Jesus as "he" (vs. He) -- accidental? purposeful?, just as long as it's not thoughtless. *he’s waiting for you to write a perfect poem to shoot you down This reminds me of the part in War and Peace where the Russian general dies after defeating Napoleon in Russia. His work was done and so he died. That's the down-side of perfection/completion.

It’s not like that,

It's not like that, really. It's a fear we have. Being God-like bears great responsibility and few of us are willing to bear. And I never reference JC (not Jayne-Chloe) as he, he's my elder brother. ~A "Even if I knew the world were to end tomorrow, I would plant an olive tree today."-- Francis of Assisi

Much of my early poetry was

Much of my early poetry was infused with my Catholic background, quite spiritual. I did include references to other spiritual traditions. *Sacred feminine* was given a nod by the inclusion of a new dogma: Virgin Mary during the Dark Ages. Sadly, that's all it was given. Witness the Inquisition. ~A "Even if I knew the world were to end tomorrow, I would plant an olive tree today."-- Francis of Assisi

...the song of the warblers echoing through the tall woods

Ann of Norway I walked across water today on the long lake not far from here, the glints of light like stars strewn on its surface and the song of the warblers echoing through the tall woods that frame the lake, the lake of life where poetry lies waiting to be versed and conversed and thrown out of its heavenly tower, the mind, and for us to find like precious gems written here by our friends, like you my sister Anna, Anna Anna, Ann.
