The human sound

Sitting in the countryside
Nature's voices all around
Then a low flying jet plane
Makes the human sound.

Sheep are quietly grazing
Rooks are cawing on the ground
The droning of a mower
Makes the human sound.

The gentle wind blows the trees
And the songs of birds abound
Thumping music from the cars
Makes the human sound.

Rabbits eating dandelions
Quickly scurry to their mound
When the farmers twelve bore gun
Makes the human sound.

Visiting the countryside
Can be noisy I have found
But the noise that I dislike
Is the human sound.

I love it Mand

The human sound!!! It drowns out all the real beauty around us. I love the meaning in this for me. Living in the town I miss all the natural sounds...Brilliant. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Dear Mand

Very nicely done. Your poem put me in mind of wars, which is most certainly the worst of the human sound. Always, Cat

Humans do some terrible

Humans do some terrible things to each other and this beautiful planet we live on, the sound of war must be unimaginably horrible, war should be abolished forthwith. Thanks for commenting Cat, always nice to hear from you. Love Mand xxxxxx

I love sound and all I read is sound too.

Ann of Norway I like this little thought and yet the sound of the plane on a Summers day is even evoked in the Winter, and warms my thoughts by its strange wild roar, but if I think of it as man's then its not so lovely after all. The drone of traffic reaching into the Oslo woods from certain places makes one think of bees, the sounds of children playing also conjure up the Summer sunlight even in the rain. But it can destroy all peace, it is noticeable when one descends into a valley and suddenly all man-made sounds disappear and one is stunned by the silence, we have a lot of silence in Norway, not many planes and this fact made some people from Germany up a mountain in central Norway exclaim: "Its all so very quiet, its never like this in Germany." So too where we live in Oslo it is sometimes so quiet it is almost unbelievable. How privileged we are here I think. I liked your poem Mand, love Ann

Thanks for reading and

Thanks for reading and commenting Ann, I think I'll come and live in Norway, sounds wonderful, idyllic and beautiful. And Shirley says it's quiet where she lives to. We live right by the motorway so there is a constant drone of traffic and jet planes quite often fly low over the area, which hurts my ears, aside from the human sound, Wales is a wonderful place to live and the people are lovely. I am pleased to know that their are still places on earth where you can find true peace and quiet. Love to Ann xxxxx

There is a quality in noise

Ann of Norway It can be that one feels the continuous buzz of traffic has a constancy of purpose, and only when it stops, like the stopping of the grandfather clock, does one notice it was there, it has influenced us in another, perhaps more excited manner, the coursing of our blood joining the passing of the cars and lorries becoming a second-nature kind of sound that soothes in spite of being defined as noise. That's how one can live in a vibrant city too, isn't it Mand? Love Ann.

How is it done?

How do you do it? What a keen observation of your hearing and accurate reflection in your ability to show it. So very thoughtful. Your poetry always disarms me. A favorite. Thank you, Lisa p.s. This is my nomination for the day.

Thanks lml so nice to hear

Thanks lml so nice to hear from you, hope your o.k. I was sitting in the West Wales botanical gardens when I wrote this poem, I often go there for peace and quiet and at this time of year its absolutley beautiful. I wrote down what I observed at the time, I must have been in a negative mood because instead of writing about the wonders of nature I wrote about the noises around me.lol Thanks for commenting lml. Keep safe Love Mand xxxx

hi mand

lovely poem - in total agreeance with the topic i love how you used the right words to make the lines about the human sound so harsh and how you were able to mix it wih the peace of the lines involving nature - very clever. had me up and down in mood, swinging through the write.... lovejudy xxx http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/TwentyMyPrettyPonies.html

Thanks for commenting Judy,

Thanks for commenting Judy, without realizing it I think I wrote this poem as I felt it, I was enjoying the countryside but at the same time I was irritated by the harsh human noises around me, particularly the low flying jet. But I had a lovely enjoyable afternoon, so that day was a bit of a mix. Anyway glad you liked it, I hope to catch up with everyones poems on Monday ish. Keep safe Judy. Love to you Mand xxxx
