Will I miss Africa?

Sun lifts into the morning sky
pulled pink and violet like tie-and-dye
Will I miss Africa when I fly
across the ocean to a new dawn
where grey
greets every day?

Smiles on faces of teenagers dressed
in Soccer Friday best
Will I miss the kids when I try
another job where women vie
for the boss's eye
and office politics is the daily test?

Sitting in the warmth of a sunny patio
I watch birds at the feeder come and go
Will I miss the beauty of nature's video
when I stay in a foreign land?
There is only one thing I really know -
I need someone to hold my hand.

Beautiful Diana

Strange, you writing about the sun and I, the snow. Does this mean you're thinking of leaving Africa? Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Beautiful snow

Hi Xena. Yes, I am thinking of leaving Africa, only because I can't earn enough. White women over 50 are not valued here, even if you have 30 years of incredibly good experience and top skills. Your snow and my sun - both so beautiful. Maybe one can watch nature's video anywhere and appreciate the beauty!

Just loved the line

pulled pink and violet like tie-and-dye very apt and perfect imagery This is a lovely poem of questioning and searching. Interesting perspective from a white older woman in African society. Go on the journey you seek, 'natures video'has many delights as long as you open your eyes to it. Best Wishes Seabhac

Tie-and-dye sky

Hi Seabhac. Thanks for your kind comments. Strangely enough, I walked into a shop yesterday and saw a tie-and-dye garment! The sunrise when I drive to the school at 6.00am is magnificent most days! I used to do tie-and-dye when I was a teenager and some of the morning cloud effects look just like those jagged, alternating splashes of colour! Glad you liked it :-)

Both sides

Hi Johan. I think we both know what our poems are about. I admire your courage. We can really only understand anything when we experience it first-hand, or stand by a friend or relative who is going through a challenge. Keep up your writing and be proud to reveal the truth :-)
