Spirit of the Snow

White as a snowflake on a winter's morn
I gallop across the un-trodden snow.
Never do I falter with grace of a spirit wolf
I tilt my head as my mane does flow.

Riding through the force of great winds
I carry you across unchartered glades.
From a distance only eyes are seen
I'm cloaked by the blending shades.

Kicking up hooves on the trickling snow
I sprint in the falling flakes in glee.
My tail swishes like a happy puppy
I trot the steps of walking free.

Head held high in my canter of freedom
I blow my nose in the winter's air.
Neighing to the Gods in Heaven
I'm a ghost horse that's everywhere.

The Snow-Queen smiles my way
I nod to her and pace my course.
She can see what no other can
I'm a free-spirited white horse.

I loved the nature of the

I loved the nature of the piece Rosina, it felt very witch and the wardrobe, with the snow queen and fantasy feel. I was slightly confused by the spirit wolf, hooves, mane, and then you are a free white horse nice. I guess I am saying the spirtit wolf threw me off, although the hooves and mane tried bringing me back to prepare for the end, it not as smooth as it could have been. I am not sure you should change it, I only have one opinion. But I will say it gave me something to stumble on. Besides that, I loved the story and the result! Lucky me, if I am quick I get to be your first comment! Yeah! Julie D.D.

Thanks Julie

I wanted the reader to imagine the ghost of a white wolf riding alongside the white horse, kind of an added imaginary vision of a ghostly event. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

I could visualise all of this in my mind, lovely images of this beautiful ghostly white horse swishing its tail enjoying freedom "I blow my nostrils in the winter air". Just lovely. This would make a lovely picture to put up on the wall Love Mand xxxx

Gee thanks Mand

What a lovely thing to say. My poems have been a bit depressing of late so I thought I'd try my hand at something more imaginary. This kind of poetry is not easy for me, but I’m trying. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Ditto ditto ditto all of you

Ann of Norway Oh I KNOW that Scottish snow, that moorland snow that speeds your steed, the White wild horses running free, blown torn and tossed, curling gracefully, swaying lifting dying, stormed and thrown down on cold surfaces on grass and meadows, lawns, it is the nature of that element the water frozen branched and filigree, into crystals so divine they utter prayers as they descend in splendid mad cacophony and drive us on and on into the far horizon's pale oblivion. Wonderfully written and seen and felt and danced and well done Rosina this one I shall print out and ride when I need to feel free myself, you tore out the cooler heart of me, the one that loves the snow, that wistful magic white that is so mysterious and bright. Love to dear you on your snowflake horses. Ann.

Thank you dear Ann

I'm so glad that you like this one. Imagination is a wonderful thing and to put it to a poem is great. I'm just glad that I managed to write it as well as you all say I did. It’s such a boost to me. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

I was wondering about `sped`? speed didn't sound right either, so I pondered with both. I'll see if I can fix that line a bit better. Thank you very much for pointing out what I kind of knew was wrong. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Oh thank you Stan

I was hoping you'd like this one. I used to write my poetry in this style all the time, but have been trying other ways. It's getting the images right that's the hard part. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Hi JayCee

It was Kelsey's poem `Poet Program` that encouraged me to try a little harder to come up with something more imaginary. So I have her to thank for this one. Thanks JayCee. Xena Quote: Science is what you know; philosophy is what you don't know. - Bertrand Russell

Horses and wolves

Lovely Xena. All the imagery worked for me - I could see it in my mind. I have only seen snow once but there is always something magic about it, and I have a special connection with horses and wolves :-)

Thanks Diana

As much as snow is very cold, being from Glasgow we get lots of it, and can make you feel miserable. If you wrap up warm and just stand in a field with millions of big flakes falling on your head, and around you, it’s beautiful. When walking through a park and you see all the trees, bushes; even the scampering animals of the park, all covered in snow…it’s wonderful. Wow!!!

You have so delightfully captured the wonderful high spirits of a horse on a Winter's morning in this finely crafted write Xena. The storyline is delivered with grand phraseology and the whole poem is filled with a pictorial grandeur which tango's with the reader's senses as they scan line after line after beautiful line. I have enjoyed reading this lovely work of art Xena and I thank you so very much for sharing it with me.
