THE BIG SENE-GAMBIA TREES
THE BIG SENE-GAMBIA TREES Carpeted grassland sparsely littered with shrubsBow to the imposing presence of the big treesThe silk cotton tree referred to as elephant treeWhose cotton are stuffed in pillows and cushionsThe real cotton trees bring in cash and pay the billsFor the economics of weaving lie with the menAnd the women, to market, they sell and buy food Generations have come and gone, the baobab trees standProviding juice for the thirsty, in a season, dry and hotThe leaves are cooked and ropes are made from trunkA lifeline to the people, the roots give succor to the wearyLinking the past to the future with an enduring meaningThe big trees silhouetted against the moon lit skyStand like giant guards kitted up to protect the land
