The Lives of Stone Statues

This shall be labeled a chronicle,
or a saga...if you will;

about the society of the gargoyle
when they're not sitting stoically, still.

The demon gargoyles obviously exist,
ruling the city nights, as on they play;

but, the laws of nature must insist,
that they stay frozen, during the day.

But, there's a whole other society
of these gargoyles, that in nature...are good !

they sincerely care, and posses so much integrity,
yet, they're still constantly misunderstood !

Good versus bad, these two breeds collide,
with only one of them coming out on top;

if the collateral damage equals that of each side,
then more than likely, our whole world will just stop !

So, if you're ever in any trouble,
and the city gargoyles come a running at you...

be careful, as you discern between the two of 'em,
and choose sides carefully, whatever you do !

I like this take on a long standing controversy. Well said. I have a gargoyle standing watch in my garden. His name is Charley. Very benign. Made of bluestone. 'T is said if you pour water on one of these statues, they walk at night. (or fly, if winged) A long standing truth says that angels and demons are the same thing, depending on your perspective. Another way to say it is; what if the ugliest thing you ever saw, came to your protection to prevent the most beautiful thing ever seen that came to tear you to pieces? p.s. i've over-heard Charley laughing it up with Gus, my TiKi statue on occasion. they like to play practical jokes on Lester the Gnome. last night they hid his pants in the bird bath while he was snoozing off a keg party. :)

Say, Robertknot....

...I like how you mentioned "water". I always thought that, in the movies about the "gremlins"....that they were very much like a gargoyal. Especially, if you remember that water could change 'em ! At any rate, thanks for reading, firstly.....and for commenting, too. Your thoughts were greatly appreciated. Ya know?.....that scenario you mentioned about the most ugliest thing, comming to spare you from the most beautiful thing, that's comming to "snuff" your life-light, out.....I sure could've used a "head-up" around the time of my divorce ! Ha ! ~ :) ~ Thanks, again...my friend. "Write on"! sincerely, #{:-{)}8==== docmaverick.

You're right, Indi....

...this was a subject I atleast had to touch upon, a bit.....I've got so many children's poems that, I couldn't overlook the famous gargoyal ! Now, I simply must write, and acknowledge the world famous, "Dragon"....if I'm ever going to claim that I'm the expert on children's various monsters. Take care, and thanks...again. "Write on"! sincerely, #{:-{)}8==== docmaverick.

Hi Doc!

Please....DO continue writing. Would love to read your take on the dragon! Hey Indi! the little laugh is my pleasure! But here's the funny part; Lester the Gnome thought that it was the St. Francis of Assisi statue who hid his pants (see, Francis is all kinda serious and stuff) in a moment of chastisement, so last night, Lester the Gnome painted a big yellow smiley face on the bald top part of Francis's head- which is perfectly surrounded by his halo of hair-while he was asleep, so that every time he looks down he appears as a smiling sunflower! Poor Francis doesn't even have a clue! (I guess we're going to find out if he's really a saint or not when he does find out) The birds are laughing up a storm 'cause the rabbits keep going up to poor Francis to get him to look down.... What the hell is going out out there at night? Maybe I should stop watering the statues! ;) R

You're right, Robert....

...me thinks you should use your water, sparingly. Thanks for reading, AND commenting. "Write on"! sincerely, #{:-{)}8==== docmaverick.

God I love this poem and

God I love this poem and this thread. Thank you Doc, Robert & Indi. ~A p.s. Never stop watering the statues, Robert... just keep awake to partake of the night games. Ever been carried off by a gargoyle? ;-) The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Yes, Judy....

...I have heard something 'bout their origin, but alas...it escapes me, also. Another Altzheimer's moment...I guess. Thanx for the generous wordage. "Write on"! sincerely, #{:-{)}8==== docmaverick.
