MY OLD COAT

I've had my old coat quite a while
  together we've walked many a mile
  worn it when I hunt and fish
  just any time that I might wish

All buttons are brown except one
  went missing one day having fun
  replaced with same sized one of red
  sewn on one night right before bed

The collars gotten kind of frayed
  not quite the same shape as when made
  the years have moulded it to be
  exactly right, contoured for me

The sheepskin liners not as white
  nor outside plaid as crisp and bright
  as on the day it was first worn
  so long ago one frosty morn

Despite its many mends and patches
  my temperment it closely matches
  we're both a little old and beat
  and I think thats kind of neat

And though I often catch a glance
  of folks looking a bit askance
  at me as I wear it around
  they often grin and seldom frown

I guess we all have something we wear
  as we go places, here and there
  an item with which we emote
  for me its my well-worn plaid coat
