a joyful kill

when there's nothing left
and words fail to have meaning,
when my poetry floats in a somber grey
brackish stream
and I am swallowed like a fish,

then
I will confess my silence
and say no more, my Love,

my life will have been lived
in Your memory
like an insatiable hunger
Your insight burning away all that sunlight
from this flesh, uncoiled
dreams we shared briefly

You and I,
inseparable
inside these paper walls of my heart
blossoming like a rose.
thundering like a strange fire.

John, every once in awhile I remember that it's the spirit trying to touch us all through our poems. You just reminded me. Thank you. ~ "Even if I knew the world were to end tomorrow, I would plant an olive tree today."-- Francis of Assisi

Haven't read too much here lately

Needed the free thinking time but the title intrigued me as a juxtaposition ...joyful kill...a great sadness in those words but also the poem unravels as a very honest awareness of life and love and loss. Not so much anger in this one more of a resigned feel. I like its honesty Seabhac
