You Don't Know Jack About It

Does the nursery rhyme portray
that having too many children
will actually cause someone to live in a shoe?

Or does it subtly imply
that after all, it does "take a village",
and the inevitable homeless shuffle is the new dawn?

Or, what the hell was wrong with young Jack?
What foriegn substance could betray a boy's logic,
by propelling him to extinguish a candle flame, with his own breeze?

If so, did he then cheat the death card, and narrowly escape a fire
to merely stare serendipity in the face,
win a date with Jill, just to end up breaking his own head?

Then, there was the time Jack,
declared that he was a good boy!
When he stuck his thumb in a pie, and pulled out a plum.

Was Jack merely an unruly child?
I think not; he was just an adventurer,
and he pushed everything to the limit.

You see, Jack was a proponent to the outcome of his own actions.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
He may be pushing the envelope, right now...in another world;

but, he owns that right.
you see, he earned it in this life,
by living it to it's very fullest, no matter what.

Hmmm...altho you say we don't know Jack about it.......

I would still surmise...he (Jack) led an exciting life...after all he went up the hill with Jill....which could have been why he needed such a large house...I mean I see the future in your poetry...and thats why I always wish there could be more...liked this one very much...............................Antoinette Marie

Fairy tales were always more

Fairy tales were always more than what they seemed to be on the surface, they were a subtle and not-so-subtle social and political commentary of the times. Comic Satire is today's norm. Doc, imo, this is both. Impressively so! ~A "Even if I knew the world were to end tomorrow, I would plant an olive tree today."-- Francis of Assisi

How very kind, ~A....

...of you to put me into that category of both, social commentarianism, AND comic satire. Wait ! Did I just make up another word !!! Either way, I greatly appreciate your candid remarks. "Write on"! sincerely, #{:-{)}8==== docmaverick.

enjoyable read docmaverick

but i don't know which jack you're referring to in - 'What foreign substance could betray a boy’s logic, by propelling him to extinguish a candle flame, with his own breeze?' anyway, jack got over any injury with the magic use of vinegar and brown paper didn't he? jack's adventures are just typical of any young boy's - or even older 'boy's'- escapades. it's a wonder any of you males live past 21 love judy xxx ps 'foriegn' (foreign) http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/TwentyMyPrettyPonies.html

Hi, Judy....

...I guess it was my learned opinion, that "Jack be nimble", "Jack Horner", and "Jack"...from, "Jack & Jill" fame, were all, one in the same. I didn't include the "Jack" from, "Jack and the beanstalk", because he was much older...and HAD to be a different "Jack". Anyhoo...I thought it was vinegar, a toad...with a rabbit's foot around his neck, and THEN brown paper, isn't that right? At any rate, thank-you sooo much for reading, and then taking the time to make a comment. Sorry 'bout the mis-spelled word...I can't figure out how my spellcheck missed it. Anyway, thank you...once again. Your response was greatly appreciated. "Write on"! sincerely, #{:-{)}8==== docmaverick.

of course

silly me i forgot all about jack and the candlestick... didn't know about the toad and rabbit's foot -- but i guess it makes sense, you know - alterative therapy and all most nursery thymes are about something social or political - eg: 'ring a ring a rosie' was about the plague. i wonder what the 'jack' stories are about. love judy xxx http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/TwentyMyPrettyPonies.html

Either way, Judy....

...you have more knowledge about nursery rhymes...than most ! Personally, if nursery rhymes are predominately political.....then I'd have to conclude that, with every thing that ol' Jack got into trouble over, I would say that, he would have to have been running for some important office, or somethin'. Which, on the other hand...and, by the way....seriously, greatly disturbs me.....not to mention, how absurdly interested I am, at the prospect of having any nursery rhyme character, run for any office....just put me with the group that's on a "need-to-know" basis. Add me to the list where, nobody lets me get "wind of it".....and we'll be just, fine. You see, that way.....I won't know enough to get myself into trouble, nes' pa? All seriousness aside, thanks again, for reading, AND leaving your comments. It just so happened to make my "day". Take care, "Write on"! sincerely, #{:-{)}8==== docmaverick.

Hi Doc

I don't know Jack, but I guess he didn't know jack about himself, just lived and followed the breeze to the land of fun. Live and let live, I guess was his motto. Xena

You are correct, lady Xena....

...however, if he did happen to turn out to be, the "Jack", from the "Jack and the beanstalk" story...well then, he broke his own motto, because he sure didn't give a "hoot" about the Giant ! That, particular "Jack", was a bit self-centered, and greedy.....don't ya think? Thanks again, for commenting.....AND for your avatar ! ~ :) "Write on"! sincerely, #{:-{)}8==== docmaverick.
