TAKEN FOR GRANTED
TAKEN FOR GRANTED It was there for us, freely givenFruits from the garden, on a platterWe danced around the table, hands upAte from it, till we were satisfied The season of trials came, we waitedHarvest became poorer, we starvedThe plates sat empty at the centerThe dance stopped and faces drawn We took for granted, the joy we hadBy the presence of the fruits offeredThe songs of a rewarding fertilityAnd the peace that abound at home Now, we pick knives and forks, not to eatAim at each other’s throat with disgustWe quarrel and fight for nothing, becauseWe took what we had for granted.
