…but you were not there I called to express my feelings for youThe feedback flashed, was a no replyRoses and goodwill messages, forwardedWith steps guarded to your homeBut you were not there, not a noticeSo I stood at a crossroad for your return At the intersection with seven roadsOnce stood a tall African oil bean treeInterlocked with the flames of the forestRadiant red flowers shimmering in the sunShading waiting lonely tired men in loveBefore the city council came and cut them off I looked down the roads as I basked in the heatGlittering images, like the highway mirageMoved backward with every step I tookYour mocking laughter echoed in my earsSo, I imagined you in my arms, consolinglyBut you were not there, delusion had its course.
