HERITAGE
We feel them oft' in times of strife
the shadows from our past
all those who led to where we are
have gained rest now at last
And yet their lives, though great or small
have followed us 'till now
their words or deeds, ideas or works
remain to show us how
How best to build on what they've done
how best to face our foes
how best to live our present lives
and deal with present woes
These pioneers who cleared the land
for farmers' fields and towns
whose days have passed like grains of sand
their dreams have been passed down
The ones who joined this disparate earth
with railroads' steel and highway's girth
who brought us light by damming streams
and hope by kindling their sons' dreams
Live even now and watch like spies
their glint is seen behind our eyes
the shadows from our past
all those who led to where we are
have gained rest now at last
And yet their lives, though great or small
have followed us 'till now
their words or deeds, ideas or works
remain to show us how
How best to build on what they've done
how best to face our foes
how best to live our present lives
and deal with present woes
These pioneers who cleared the land
for farmers' fields and towns
whose days have passed like grains of sand
their dreams have been passed down
The ones who joined this disparate earth
with railroads' steel and highway's girth
who brought us light by damming streams
and hope by kindling their sons' dreams
Live even now and watch like spies
their glint is seen behind our eyes
