Smile... and say goodbye.........losing a friend is never easy

Smile.....and say goodbye

The words have all been written,
    somehow they've all been said
The last words that you spoke to me
    still echo through my head
Your vision is your vision
it's not for me to say
To close my eyes and not see
    has never been my way

I've known my share of sorrow
I've cried my share of tears
I've danced and sang along lifes beach
    many times, over the years
I know that life's a mixture
a bit of this and that
I may have only this life
can't say if I'll be back

I'm sorry you don't need me
your heart has no more room
Somehow your life is full enough
you've learned to accept the gloom
Happiness is beneath you
    you've learned to rise above
No such time, as time for me
and no such time for love

Ok, I will accept that
    and go about my life
As we speak , from time to time
I'll keep it nice and light
No reminder of the could have beens
    no questions, as to why
I'll talk about the weather
    smile.......and say goodbye.

Very timely for me....

As this is the 7th anniversary of my father's death, and I am feeling somewhat down...the last verse really speaks to, (and inspires) me, as I never have really learned to deal with the gloomy feelings when they come... I quite enjoyed this take, especially this portion of the initial verse... The words have all been written, somehow they’ve all been said The last words that you spoke to me still echo through my head Dealing with loss is difficult. You have captured a very real, and distinct facet of it... Thanks for sharing this

Very well written

But I hate you had to write it. I feel your pain through your words. Because I know them so well. I'm lost for words. But my heart is with you. Take Care and I hope your next poem reflects a smile. Huey

Huey, my friend, Your

Huey, my friend, Your comment brought tears to my eyes. I KNOW what you're thinking, and let me be the first to tell you that you're wrong!! Patrick and I are fine! I wrote this for someone that I considered a dear friend. Words were spoken, feelings were hurt, and no amount of talking could fix it. This poem was my way of 'filing.' Thank you dear, for caring. You're a keeper!!!! Sue

The last stanza is a deep

The last stanza is a deep sigh for me. It also has the makings of a song, tho I'm not a songwritter. ~ a couple of suggestions: the last words (that) you spoke to me.. that is unnecessary and changes the 7-6-syllables in the first four lines. check for those. "Just as what you dream is your own and no one else can observe it, so the world you see is your own." ~ Nisargadatta

This one resonates in me also

Hey Jetz this is a great poem and the flow the words, the meaning behind them were delicately crafted and done. I would put this one to a hard bound book and seal it with a kiss. Or better yet send it to a card company. Yes a card company this is an excellent poem that many many people can relate to, I know I did and it reminded me of alot of friends that I have lost too even in death and in miles of separation. Kudos to you gal Love,Mona xoxox

Mona, Forgive me for not

Mona, Forgive me for not responding sooner. My "quiet time," for reading and responding is limited. This poem needed to be written. Without sounding like a Jerry Springer guest, (hush Patrick!!!!!!!!) I needed closure. You struck a cord with the 'card company' comment, which Indy was so sweet to point out. Thank you Indy....pay backs a bitch..(semi smile) Isn't that what poetry is about....writing in a way that others can both relate and understand? always a pleasure to hear from you Mona. Thanks. Sue

Yes thank you

I been outside for most of the day doing pool work and some yard work, getting ready for the summertime bbq's. I hear you on the quiet time too, we all need some thats for sure. I have been spending way too much time in here and you mention something about Jerry Springer and make me crack up. It was so nice to hear from you and I know the weather up there is getting just right now for the beach and pool too. I really liked this write Sue for sure. ANd yes I feel the same as you about poetry writing so others can understand and relate to what the poem is saying. Talk to you soon You dont go in chat anymore, You should try it again it's been quite fun on Saturday nites. Peace and Love Mona

Dear Sue

Hooded Stranger recommended this piece. And I'm so glad he did. I could really relate to it... in time everything passes from this world. I like Mona's idea. Always, Cat
