Religious War

                                   HALLELUJAH!

Religious wars, where absolutes are proven neither wrong nor right,

Have body counts that must show war's absurd.

Religion has, for centuries, been generating heat, not light

With slashing swords excused by Holy words.

Though generations fight to make their true God number one again;

Though thousands die for crescent or for cross.

Fanatics on both sides still wade across vast seas of blood and pain,

The meaning of the scriptures now long lost.

And if God ever came to this small planet, would He hold our hand?

What shall we tell Him? what will be our cry?

As our nations beg forgiveness, will He try His best to understand?

Or simply snuff the sun out, let us die.

With God On Our Side

Reminds me of this song by Dylan: http://www.bobdylan.com/#/songs/with-god-on-our-side. A good poem. Thanks, Lisa

The first line

is gold, the end is strong and I've no quibble about anything except PUNCTUATION.

arrows to the heart

I bow to your superior erudition. Having casually thrown a bucket of full stops and fired a shotgun loaded with commas at my creation, I see your point. I hope you see this change as an improvement. Many thanks Ian
