poems we drown in
fait vos jeux
spin the karmic wheel...
on a warm Spring day last month,
or perhaps the month before,
in a field of lemon-ripe daffodils and twisted tulips
bowing to the butternut sun
in my mind's eye
you are a sharp turn
grazing skin and bone, a blood-letting
seeping into my awareness,
I wanted to write for you a bouquet
of Shasta daises,
poetry that eats this perilous light....
a resilient poem near the breakwater of words ,
dark music spinning
when the flesh is weak
and the heart is but a songbird's trill
lest we forget how we tasted
in each other's mouths
and we drown in unread poems,
or poems we have unwritten.
