OL' BUDDY
My old friend is back again
reminding me each day
of how careless I have been
in youth now gone away
He has been around so long
when he 's gone, it feels just wrong
his presence here by day and night
somehow seems just, and even right
I'm reminded of the times when I
thought hurt was just for others
and was destined to pass me by
for sons of other mothers
Each time he calls and I respond
with grimace,limp, or frown
driving home how often I
have let my body down
So now I'll pass remaining years
come sun, or snow, or rain
for ever in the company of
my old companion, pain
reminding me each day
of how careless I have been
in youth now gone away
He has been around so long
when he 's gone, it feels just wrong
his presence here by day and night
somehow seems just, and even right
I'm reminded of the times when I
thought hurt was just for others
and was destined to pass me by
for sons of other mothers
Each time he calls and I respond
with grimace,limp, or frown
driving home how often I
have let my body down
So now I'll pass remaining years
come sun, or snow, or rain
for ever in the company of
my old companion, pain
