El Hajj Malik El Shabazz (a poem on his Birthday)

I did not hear the drums this morning Beating "Denko" for you Or the street singing for you It was silent But  I remembered My eyes lids open to view my brown skin I remembered it was your birthday Brother Malcolm The man of the hour Shouted black power Parading your pride w/a Harlem stride Gathering knowledge Overcoming obstacles Once deceived by his own worldly greed Too much cocaine Too much lye burning his brain Too much white skin between his sheets Norfolk terminated freedom Locked his soul But freed his mind Discovering salvation "Bismillah Al Rahmaan Al Raheem" Follow me in the name of Allah Follow me... Remember the man © 2009 Lepadah For all races - "Nobody can give you freedom, nobody can give you equality or justice or anything, if you're a man you take it."

Hi Lepadah

This absolutely sings. "eyes lids"....eyelids? It would flow better. "w/a"....spell it out, and split it into two lines, it would have more impact that way. These are extremely minor. This really is a most excellent piece. I have been reading the Koran and "X" this past month, and your poem encapsulates what I have been reading and more. Remember the man...he is worth remembering.
