"JUST WORDS"

"It's just words" is often said
by those whose wits are dense as lead
or by those who never thought
of all the joys some words have brought

Have they never heard the speeches
that led to warriors storming beaches?
or brought a bitter war to end
by turning former foe to friend

Or heard Anthony bury Caesar
(now that was a real rabble pleaser)
or Lincoln in the midst of war
  at Gettysberg say"Four score...."

I guess they never had high dreams
like Martin Luther King it seems
Or in England's darkest wartime night
heard Winston say just where they'd fight

Did they not hear that older guy
talk of  a road less traveled by
perhaps they've never had a lover
speak sweetly to them under cover

But surely they've been hurt before
by hard words piercing to their core
or heard a joke that was so funny
it made eyes tear and nose get runny

The words they refer to as "just"
  can turn disquiet into trust
or in midst of loss's grieving
stop trembling lip ,and shoulders' heaving

I guess I'll never understand
how they dismiss so out of hand
  the changes "only words"have wrought
on folks' beliefs and even thought

And so to all be reassured
there's power in the lowly word

Hi! I really liked it!

Hi! I really liked it! It's so true that some people are blind to the power of words, and yes, they're very wrong. A few things could be improved though, I think: First of all, "war to bitter end", shouldn't that be "peaceful end" or something like that? Also, "war time" is usually written in one word. Finally, "powre" is typoed. Other than that though, great poem! You know, "just words" is often said by people who aren't lucky enough to have your talent and skill with words. They feel the power of words but prefer to deny it. Antoine

I'm glad you enjoyed it.Wrote partially to remind folks that what is often written or spoken off hand or in haste still has potential to change thought or live beyond writer or speaker's time.Already rewritten "war to bitter end"by transposing war and bitter in my head!As for typo,if you read much of my stuff ,spotting them isn't that hard.ha!ha!But appreciate you taking time to point it out.See edited version in next few days. thanks,Stan

What a great piece of work here scribe

Very nice here and I also liked the message it provoked, I seen a couple of things only in the format that could use a tidy up just a few spaces and commas things like that, You know me by now I am a stickler for those little details. Love ya guy and hope your doing great!! Nice piece here and Gettysburg add the cap to it talk later Mona TIME well spent is TIME well lived
