Life

Asleep when awake,

awake when asleep,

we reverberate in fragmented emotion.

Imagination evokes every possibility

only to fade,

but love splintered to allow manifestation

to freeze memory.

So let us endeavour to walk gently, tread softly,

so as to not

disturb the fabric

or wrap time up in knots.

And may we seek serenity in sorrow

and life in death.

For,

we may not always remember,

but we are always experiencing.

Forever somewhere.

About This Poem

About the Author

Region, Country: Western Australia, AUS

Favorite Poets: Favourite poets? So many, so varied. I like particular songs, not necessarily the singer... and the same goes for poetry. I can honestly say though, that Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman was what inspired my love of poetry - my mother began reading it to me when I was still a baby, and it became my favourite bedtime story

Lovely Judy

Sometimes it feels like we're asleep when awake and vice versa as you say, but your words tells us to wake up and live the best we can. You never know when the aliens will take over…just kidding…from my recent poem. Rosina xena465

Dear Judy

My favorite lines are such a simple philosophy and so true: Seek serenity in sorrow and life in death. Love, Cat

Elegant philosophy, beautifully written,

but do you yourself ever have a problem with poems written in the second person? Although I admit it is subtly done here, switching in the third stanza. I always get a bit of the feeling I'm in class, you know? So [let's] walk gently, tread[ing] softly. Try[ing] not to disturb the fabric Seek[ing] serenity in sorrow See how these small changes make it more of an invitation than an exhortation? thanks jess

i did feel it was a bit 'teachy' but didn't know quite what to do with it. i've changed it - liked yours but felt it lost a bit of rhythm - so did it my way. does it still sound like an invitation? love judy xxx http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/TwentyMyPrettyPonies.html
