Girl Was I

Girl was I

Happy in my house

Every corner known to eye

Every nook to the sky

Sun in my grass

Was always so bright

& moon in my window

Used to sleep with me all night

Every alley leads to my room

Every voice asks me

Every word was so sweet

& every eye full with love.

The flowers knew me

Known was I to every fly

Every leaf used to talk

Every wasp listens

One day wind was so high

All I could hear was

Somebody saying

Pack your bags & fly

Obeyed I

Filled my basket

With the flowers

Dust

Sand

and with little water that still flows from that tap.

Found myself with all the chains & shackle

That could glitter

With any ray of light

Welcomed me some unknown & known’s

But something in me

Was scared

Scared to every eye

Scared to every desire

Somebody asked me

What have I brought?

I opened the basket

& heard the laughs...

Who on earth brings things like that....

With numb voice I replied

Flowers are for your house... to make it bright

Sand is to fill every splinter

& water to wash

Wash my hands with the dust of my past......

Beautiful and Brilliant

I love it! The melody, the words and the theme are wonderful. It reminds me of when I left home. It's beautiful.

And set out on a new life as a wife? Dear Sheba.

Ann of Norway "Every leaf use to talk".............useD "Used to sleep with me whole night".....whole = all "Only I could hear was"....All I could hear... "& with little water that still flows from that tap."...and with the little water flowing from that tap? "Welcomed me some known & known’s"...unknown and known? "Who on earth bring things like that….".......bringS I just LOVED this, its fresh look on things from your perspective Sheba, you capture an innocence and excitement that you feel just before getting married, which I know is the case with you, and we wish you every happiness in your marriage, and your husband to be too. Thank you for sending us this poem of yours, love from Ann.

Dear Ann.. Loved your

Dear Ann.. Loved your comments. Well I have made changes as advised by you, but the line... “& with little water that still flows from that tap”... is having a significance ... the tap is a part of the childhood plays where I use to wash my muddy hands.. A loads of thanks for your good wishs, its so sweet of you.. Love you always

You transport us dear Shepra

Ann of Norway You transport us dear Shepra to your country with its beautiful traditions connected with water, with flowers, with all things magically reinvented by Indian thought to say and mean significant and positive things for our inner minds. This I enjoyed very much, and thank you for appreciating my comment. Love you too, Ann.

Great Poem

I enjoyed this immensely. Your language made me feel the sorrow of having to leave the familiar and comfortable to set out for a whole new world. The ending highlights so well how our fears are not unfounded as the innocence is ridiculed and yet, there is also much bravery in the simply stated answer. Excellent. Thank you, Lisa
