Nickels, Dimes & Smiles..

Let's believe in tomorrows
says Mother to her kids
the Sun may have set today
surely, tomorrow it will rise..

The chill of the winter
blanks hunger in their bowels
the plight in their eyes
as deep as their sockets..

"Will Angels bring blankets
to cover our tattered forms?"
the little one in the huddle
asks his trusted Mom...

Pulling him close to her bosom
she tells him to count the stars
"will one of them  drag us,
over the poverty line?"

She has no answers, to give or make believe
tears have dried up and so have her feeds
with a prayer on her lips she cuddles him tight
survival instinct sees off their night...

The mist soon lifts like crystal evanescence
but Angels are sleeping, somewhere in the heavens
the rich are poking at their bread & omlettes
the kids are sweating out for dimes and nickels...

Let's believe in tomorrows, says Mother to her kids
let's celebrate tonight with our nickels and dimes
may not be enough to buy you bread and omlettes
but enough to buy-back your million dollar smiles....

a matter of fate..

Good to know you liked this Mr.Hobo...It is a matter of fate that some of our fellow humans are under privileged..many a time their spirit is overlooked while they fight out each day with a hope that tomorrow will bring more sunshine in their loves...that was my inspiration for this tribute to them...raj (sublime_ocean)...

Raj

I am at a total loss for words to describe this sad but beautiful poem. Tears came to my eyes upon reading this. Your words go right where they should, to a persons heart. And yet their is always that glimmer of hope, though it pains me to see entire families suffer so, especially children Chrys

what touches our heart..

what touches our heart inspires us to write isn't it Chrys? this one was dedication to the mothers of those street children who purely due to their trust in their mothers keeps their hopes alive..taking each day..each little storm in their stride... good to hear your comment... warmly..raj (sublime_ocean)...
