EPITAPH
If my life were measured out
Like hours in one long day,
As I write this, the sun is low;
The shadows lengthen, time to go,
I’ve had a pleasant stay.
In this sweet garden of my mind
The setting sun gives light
I sip my wine, see birds catch flies
To feed their young - still hungry cries-
I’ve done that, won that fight.
I’ve made and lost a lot of friends
But to those here I say
You are the best I've ever had,
Each one I treasure and I’m glad
You've come, for me, today
And so -- farewell -- it’s time to go
By now I’ll know just where,
So draw the curtains, no more tears,
Enjoy each hour of your next years,
I’m somewhere, but not here
