7 Lights

voices in the background
people talking
saying the same things
people have been saying forever

a mother and a daughter in one booth
they have been talking their whole life
and they still find things to say

a table for the coffee club
old men who have been meeting for 20 years
to talk about the good ole days
hoping for a new member to join the club
so they could tell every story over again

a young couple sitting in the corner
playing the giggle game
enjoying their dinner
but thinking about the desert
the other has to offer

a kind waitress
gives me a gentle smile
as she fills my water for the third time
she is my part time friend
my friend every time I come in

I think these people are the luckiest people on earth
they all have someone to share with

me

I am sitting here
stirring my bowl of soup
counting
1,2,3,4,5,6,7
7 lights over the bar
