Laundry in the dryer

wound and round
vent pipe huffing the steam
in whispy clots

button and pocket rivet chipping
enamel making tiny cotton piranha
teeth
soft wear and tear
the clothing crisp line soften
like love sonnets on coffee
house napkins
clothes bleed mute white
edges

take you hot and full of breath
the steel creature
and soak them to my chest
the smell of hot fresh
new

inhaled and imbued

denim and permanent press
the print T
the matching socks

static crackles and hisses
and the dull yellow light
upon landing gives
greeting when the motor
stops the drum
from thumping

and sqeaks to a stop

Damn!

How do you manage to make something so ordinary as doing laundry sound so wonderfully poetic? I can hear, smell, see and feel everything about this laundry in the dryer. I love it. Thanks, Lisa

Media and Immediate artist

should have gone animation or Media college I love ads having studied them for years and then informal library study of the great minds Autobiographies and professors like Marshal McLuhlan Life and Death of Great American Cities by that amazing woman etc influence is everywhere if one is open to this television and media the late night radio announcers with their articulation thats where I learned to think like I speak and then to find poetry which is like ballet of the language Its performing arts of a sort and this is probably not unlike busking Whomever heard of a busking poet I can see a chalkboard and a brush like the sidewalk chalk artists creating and then letting the elements erase wow just thought of that one now Thanks for the ideas Lisa! explain busking.

I couldn't find the definition of busking... On my way in to work a guy walked past me rolling a cart laden with big rolls of thick plastic and I thought of 'Laundry in the Dryer.' So, yeah, influence is everywhere: your poem, your comment to my comment, this comment, that guy rolling that cart. I think you might like my poem 'Bricks.' Thanks for the inspiration. Lisa

how can someone take

how can someone take something so mundane, and make it a work of poetry? your attention to laundry detail, and subsequent expressions of observation, is absolutley fantastic meticulous attention to detail; the noticing of things that others would dismiss... you have amazing observational expression, a way of speaking that is entirely your own, entirely unique...and completely engaging your friend p.
