Nightdreams

Fragrant moss my only bed
I lie, not really sleeping
willow tree above my head
resolutely weeping

Subtle breezes brush my brow
crickets sing out strong
a lonely loon calls lowly now
adding to the song

Starshine woos the summer sky
with a lovers' touch
and brings to mind a maid that I
once cherished far too much

The night enfolds me in it's arms
I am a child, it seems
succumbing to nocturnal charms
I drift away in dreams

There to visit distant lands
re-living other times
feeling power in my hands
to pen immortal rhymes

I walk on worlds that may have died
and others never born
but a strong, relentless tide
pulls me towards the 'morn

Waking, I embrace the day,
basking in it's light
but come the dusk I'll long to play
once more in realms of night

Lonnie, I have read most of your posted work here on Neo, and this one sums all of them up. It is precise, rythmic, and has that perfect rhyming tempo. I could drum to this piece all day long. You seem to write effortlessly and let your pen flow. The images jump off the page and become real in my mind, now that is a clever trick...you must share it with me. Thanks my friend, I so enjoyed this piece. One of your best if not the very best. Thanks, HS!

I'm not sure how to share that particular trait except to say that if the words are right, the images usually convey! Thanks again for commenting, and I'm glad you liked this!

What can I say that hasn't already been said. I agree with hooded stranger's assessment of the imagery. The wording just takes you to this place that you write of. The Monkey's Tears is still my all time favorite. This is a different style and subject though, so it comes close Chrys

I can't wait for sleep tonight.

Lonnie, Your poem is comforting - a sweet lullaby of sounds and peaceful imagery. My favorite images are: Starshine woos the summer sky with a lovers’ touch and a strong, relentless tide pulls me towards the ‘morn and this perfect ending: Waking, I embrace the day, basking in it’s light but come the dusk I’ll long to play once more in realms of night Well deserved spotlight. Thanks, Lisa
