Burnt Nothing

On the easel of my horizon
Monet was painting
an autumn twilight,
but I watched as smoke
gray fingers
smeared his pastel
and my visions wisp-ed away

a god spoke of burning
the testament of life,
every single letter
of every verse,

now?
they feather to ash
on the breeze,
I burnt them,

I woke yester-year
with a poet in residence,
but today, today?
I awoke the scribbler
living on the nothing
of me

before each page
passed over the flames
and consumed in the
reaching fingers of black,
melting to mould
each strip of my flesh,

I close my eyes
and feel the ridge
of a word, a letter
I allowed them
to sear my palms,

I brush caked salt
from the corner
of my mouth,

as I handed each poem
to a quick death,
I read the Misery
of each page
that flares,

those black fingers
now curl black strips
of my mantel,
like scrapping paint

flaccid but not broken,
I pick at a piece of ash
in hopes of piecing,
a poet back together

but Monet has left
and I can only sketch
in the charcoal

with a god,
whispering in my ear,
that I must burn for nothing

I really seen the picture you painted in this poem of yours

Awesome poem and as you char the words to ash and start over again know that the words will then come alive once again. Some writes we must char to the fire and then some make great poems as this one has. It may be just the one you tear up that makes it the brilliant lightful one, Grazzi JC Love Mona xoxox TIME well spent is TIME well lived

Yes that is exactly

What I seen as the moon overhead and the fires burning the paper thrown into the pit of ending those pages of words..It is good to do that, almost has a healing spirit when they turn to ashes. I often say write something that is bothering yu and then throw it to the fire, as if to say release it and let it go, its good for the body, mind and soul, did you feel better after you did it. I know I did. I know people will think that is crazy but it is a healing thing to do believe it or not. Now you say it was 1000 poems and I just hope the one that still needed to be explored and read by others did not turn to ash so fast. I am glad I got to read this one right as I felt it that is what you were portraying in your words. Kudos again SuperSeren:) Love Mona TIME well spent is TIME well lived

No burnt ash for you JayCee

I can't imagine you burning any of your super poems...especially this one...its brill. My heart goes out to little Lazarus. I hope he makes it. I know you'll do your best to help the wee thing. I once had a baby rabbit, only for a couple of days. The mother had rejected it after all the other babies died. I called it `BobTail`. It was very lively for the first two days, but it grew weak and died on the third day. As you know, a lot of animal mothers reject their young when there's something wrong with them. Fingers crossed x Rosina xena465

As we tread life's paths...

once-in-awhile, we make choices that we regret. But, know that when you let your heart lead, you are on the right path. I think that you were trying to shed some heavy loads, when you burned those poems. I think you were making room for the ones to come. I see your heart, and it is definately in the "right place". Hope the pup is making progress. I will send healing thoughts, and lots of love. Love, and higgest bugs,~Gee

You outdo the surrealists with this one, Jayne.

Ann of Norway Dear dear Jayne, I feel this one's meaning and am not made so happy by my sense of what I think I can see. Okay I will use the norsk 'top' too. The ash winged paper floats through this like a poem crinkled and torn. You outdo the surrealist's images with this one stunning and strangely wonderful. My love to you and all our love to you from Ann. "like scrapping paint" ...scraping?

had to stop in you know:

:) I like Monet too. he may be my favorite.... but for me, that's as tough as deciding who my favorite poet is. maybe with Monet, it's that he could instill the beauty captured of a moment, even though there must have been some difficult struggles going on in his mind... having to do with the art world at that time. especially seeing he was trying to make a living at it. takes courage. sort of like my thoughts concerning the last lines of Frost's "Stopping by Woods..." those lines have stuck in my mind for some reason since i first heard them years ago. it took a while, but i can feel his reticence in having to leave that last scene to continue on with his promises. it speaks clearly of one of those special moments alone, with the wish it could be shared. you know Jayne... like with the pup. Dear Rob

I dont have to think too much hes probably my favourite there is something about his paintings ... they just seduce the senses ... I am like you could not pick a favourite poet ... I have way too many favourites but Coleridges Khan poem is one of my all time favourites ... I love the story that goes with it ... before the poem in the coleridge book I have there is a telling of Coleridge having the dream and being called out after only getting a small piece of the dream down by the time he got back home most of the dream was gone but the Khan we read today is the patchwork of what he could remember ... what I always think of is? ... what if he hadnt of been called out that day what would we had ended up reading ... Thank you so much for sharing that line with me ... I dont think I will ever forget that either ... Why cant a house be haunted? I know a pen can;even if only for a heart ... never heard that before now I have to go find the whole thing lol ;) thanks for sharing and the visit it was much appreciated love and big hugs JayCee x x x Quote:- It is a thousand times better to have common sense without education than to have education without common sense.---Robert Green Ingersoll

Ah dear old Monet.

Ann of Norway You paint the textures and the colours into the words as they fill the canvass of your poem, ending up in the finished burnt out nothingness that Monet himself must have experienced as his eyesight faded, and his colours and paints became like a mud weight in his mind; that too must have been a tragic experience for a painter of such wonderful pictures, and some even say the character of his Water Lilies was the distorted vision of what he saw when he was so old; we shall never know what lay in his mind, or whether this was so or not. No more do we truly KNOW what lies in your mind do we? That's what is so evocative with poetry it says the part and we have to make the whole into a whole we can understand and enjoy too. Yours with sympathy and love, Ann. P.S. My next door neighbour in Devonshire was told she couldn't bring up her child she was too weak and that she would soon die, NO FEAR Mrs S the mother said I'l raise her in her VERY LOUD Devonshire accent,( we could hear what she said out of doors a long way off) and raise her she did albeit with asthma so bad that in the end after 30-40 years she died of that. So where there is hope..... Even my own father was given up for dead, the doctor saying he was bringing an death certificate the next day....down to the cupboard went his mother and fetched the bottle of Whisky and gave him a dose, he had been subconscious for nearly a year, this does turned the fever and he survived, well here am I!!!! He never drank a drop of alcohol, save the Christmas Rich Red Ruby Wine ( horrors) and hated the very odour of beer, and yet it was that STUFF that saved his life. I'm not suggesting you should use the same for the pup!!! LuvAnnH

funny thing me and Monet share the bad eyes ... hes one of the most amazing artists I sometimes wonder what could have been painted had his eyesight not failed ... these days he would have had care that would have made his eyesight last longer such a god damned shame ... thank you for your kind words its people like you who make getting up some days worth it ... inspirational YOU ... love to you darlin friend JayCee x x (Quote:- It is a thousand times better to have common sense without education than to have education without common sense.---Robert Green Ingersoll)

forgive me Jayne!-

didn't mean to lead you on a wild goose chase- the line you like was simply from my mind. I love the Monet work for the same reason. I have several books on his paintings and one of his lesser known pastels. I was a little shocked by a similarity between some of his works (which i discovered after i had already started) and some of my early endeavors in art. (please... i am not implying i am anywhere near as talented) just an alla prima style that is maybe easy for beginners, although his actually evolved from a more classical mastering first. (LOL- which i need MUCH work on!) "Romance is never given through obligation, but rather born from inspiration." :) R~
