Arid Heart

Arid Heart

My heart is jaded
from too much exposure
to the world at large.
No longer can I watch
the nightly news
and feel anything;
the river of caring,
where my sympathy
and compassion reside,
have long since dried up.
My heart has hit
the point of saturation
this sponge is full;
not another drop
can it hold.
I want to feel again,
but I don't know how
to make this
numbing sensation recede.
My tears have fled,
the well is dry
as a bone in the desert.

Dear Cat

Wanting to feel again, well my dear one, this is written with feeling and yes this world can suck us dry. So much to deal with and where to start. You have expressed a feeling felt by many I assume, as I have felt as well. I send you a smile and a great big hug. May not be much but, you deserve it. I see your heart amidst these words, I also understand. Love Lyz. XX

Lovely Lyz

It doesn't surprise me that you understand where I am coming from with this poem, as you have a tender and gentle soul. The smile and hug help, thank you. Love, Cat

Dear Cat

You are a gentle soul yourself. I truly wish things would ease in all manner and form. I do understand more than I would say, but I do believe things have to get better. What more can we think. Dearest Cat, I send you all the best, always. Love and hugs. Lyz. XX

Hi Ziggy

I am sorry to tell you that this piece is really a sign of what is happening with me. It all came to a head when my uncle died a few days ago. And I never got over the loss of Dan, from the site. Always, Cat

Dear Judy

I think I am going to take a page out of your book and follow your example. I am going to stop watching the news, at least until my heart heals a bit. Thank you for your kindness. Love, Cat

Cat, we feel with our poetry, don't we? _____________________________________________________ Income-tax forms should be more realistic by allowing the taxpayer to list "Uncle Sam" as a dependent Anonymous

Cat

Cat, I have been wading through the mass of poems I have missed recently and found this one lingering in the corner. This is full of emotion and the image it paints in my mind is one of despair. The image that is clear in my mind is one of you trapped in a ball of bubblewrap, you are there but not being able to get a grip or truly feel anything due to the barrier of air filled plastic. Fav line: My heart has hit the point of saturation this sponge is full. 5 stars for sure, HS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "With all that I am and all that I could be, I walk this earth and yet nobody sees me".

Dear Dan

LOL... If I were trapped in bubble wrap I would be a screaming mess for I am claustrophobic. Thanks for commenting on this piece, and those are my favorite lines, too. Always, Cat
